I am thinking of making a Greek temple type building for CK demo games.
It will have columns at the ends with a blank wall face on the sides.
A greek temple type building will attract the eye (?) and tell people it is a game of ancients.
ie. temple = ancients
I think a second building is need in order to stop multiple temples.
I am thinking of a plain roofed single story building.

White with a red roof will also stand out.

That could be really nice, Martin.

Bearing in mind your Iberian experience, you'll just need to be prepared for all those "where can I buy that temple?" (as opposed to "nice Macedonians, can I buy 100 packets, please?) types of question  ;D

Simon

Yes Simon. I still lose sleep over it....

I will announce "it is a Peter Pig model" and they will shuffle off or let me know that some other company makes a nice Greek temple.

Hi Martin,
Here's a cheap one:

His other cut out models are 1/87 scale, so fairly close to 15mm.

Best wishes,
Martin Buck

The Usborne buildings are all brilliant.
I have the Usborne cathedral for BB games.
The PP one will be a  very small one.
2 x 3" or there abouts

Will you be able to place your small shrine on your small mound, Martin?  ;D

Is that a euphemism? ☺

Colonel Kilgore

No euphemism intended. I was simply trying to make a link between Martin's separate post on creating a small hill and this one about a temple, which will also be on the modest side.

I have a feeling Neil and I are on the same page. I did have a little internal chuckle.

I fear the slightly grubby stained one at the back.......☺

Just think if Simon had written "Ancient erection" ......☺

Just to get us back on the righteous track.
A small local temple and small house. Bearing in mind they need to fit onto a CK template 10" by 6" and put some bases in there too.

A show game with a small Greek temple on it will tell viewers that this is a game of ancients.
Admittedly that might not work for all but it will work for the target audience.
A small house needs to be made too so that the locals don't all have to live in temples.
I have some preliminary plans and sketches.

I think they will be standard PP  "solids".

Given how nice the PP terrain pieces are, these could be a good commercial proposition. Incidentally, given that there are now PP games with 6x6, 9x12 and 10x6 (and possibly others I am unaware of) movement areas, I can see isolated trees, clumps of rocks, bushes, dead cows/horses, signposts etc, making a bit of a comeback for those of us who already have a number of different mats.

martin goddard

Thanks Andy.
The different mat sizes is a shame really because it asks more of the gamer.
I would like to settle on one size mat, but that is proving difficult.

To digress about table sizes
The AK mat and CWB mat at 6x3 could probably become 5x3 when re written? Although their very width really helps the game work better.  ie separation of units in order to make players stick wit their initial deployments.

6x4 is a definite no no because it makes the junk move on to the table. Horrible. Too many games have no table size specified.  Table size affects all the major aspects of the game (but then in those games who cares?).

ROF at 4x3 could probably become 5x3 as it is gridded. ECW battle were usually close in fights without much flanking.

SB is a  4x3 too. I quite like that because it gives more off table room and lets the armies bunch up for fighting.

CK is yet another size. 2.5 feet by 5 feet. This was due to the number of zones needed for the necessary movement and tactical options.

That gives 4 sizes of mat. Plus pirate land and see ones.
It would be easier to have one mat to rule them all, but the game comes first.

Ruined the ending there. thought you were going to say

One mat to rule them all, and in the darkness bind them..... so they have nice pretty and sturdy edges

Ouch there you go again about possibly ruining the best game on your books CWB.
Most of us if you ask will say the same thing please please please tidy up the game but leave the basic game as it is ? This is why it is a popular game down here in the Deep South !
The 6 x 3 table does work well with the formation movements.
Even AK47 it's a nice table size with the(amount of) vehicles in use. Any smaller could condense the game too much ?
So having a (the same)cloth, or two for these 2 games ! As I have a grass and Sandy cloth for both systems.
