Thank you.

I must admit there are are a lot of games that can or use a 5ft x 3ft cloth with Squares on it.

But as most of the ges are squarish based games, you can modify the square size to suit. It's all about having the right number of boxes to.move your men in.  Although scenery templates need to be considered to.

I'm with Miles though...CWB and AK are great on their 6x3 without a grid (as are Washington's Army and Samurai battles on 5x3!)

I did used to make use of the pack of bits to put at the intersection of squares for the original Square Bashing!

Leman (Andy)

The bits box is great for that. I use them for Bloody Barons, as it is a one-off grid. Thus PP boulders, dead animals etc., plus some unidentified resin bushes I acquired from a friend. There is also Martin's idea to play with as well, which is a home made L-shaped piece of terrain to mark a grid corner. However, the mat that gets used most is the 5x3 that Martin sold a few years back, marked in 6 inch squares, that I use mostly for Square Bashing and Walter Schnaffs. As it happens I have a 3x1 mouse mat which I lay across the end of the mat to make 4x3. This also provides a nice soft landing for my dice, as well as providing a 3x2 area for other paraphernalia.

The 5x3 reduced to 4x3 using the mouse mat to the left of the picture. I was also able to have space at the other end of the table to store the French reserves. When I did have a 6x4 table, back in the UK, i came across some very nice 7x5 scenarios. To deal with those I bought a 6x4 cloth with an 8 inch grid and made some 2/3" rulers. I have had some good Scenarios for all Ages and They Died for Glory games out of that mat, and will probably use it to scale down some Bloody Big Battles games, all scenarios being four feet deep.
