New grid

I have just sent out a new version of CK.
I got a bit carried away.

Next idea might be to reduce the number of bases needed for an army.

3 bases instead of 4 per unit.
Die by the half base?
This would make a unit 6 increments of death instead of 4 increments of death.

This would make an army of
16 units = 64 bases= approx 192 figures.
Becomes
16 units = 48 bases = approx 144 figures

Probably easier for players to amass???

I do not understand the need to create yet another grid size for the table, it means and cloths and scenery from previous PP gridded games will not be useable.
I like the use of grids just not the constant change from rules set to rule set.
I do not want to buy another cloth and sets of scenery!

I agree with Les on the grid size. I also don't understand why we need 16 units. It seems like way too many.

I like the three bases idea for ancient armies.  A lot of us have Warmaster Ancients armies doing nothing much these days.

I agree with John and Les. We don't need to change Grid size and Scenery sizes. The 6 inch Square is a very workable size.

IN full agreement with you there. Lets standardise grid sizes. Makes life so much easier.

As for number of units. Sounds more like getting down to DBx but with units not single bases.

I'll add my voice to the call to keep grid sizes consistent please.

Having played a few of the new game, 8" sq is needed to fit 5 x 4base units in.

I have a number of 5x3 ft mats so I am going to look at  7 1/2" x 9" for a 8sq x 4sq mat or 10" x  7" for the latest  6sq x 5sq mat.

I don't like the idea of  1/2 bases for this period, games I have played so far have been quick with only 4 kills needed to dispose of a unit, with 1/2 bases units last longer , turns into a slogging match with  no manoeuvre

The table size may well be a major issue.
The beauty of grids I think we all agree is that players can make the grid size anything they like and not change a single part of the rest of the rules.

A 6 x 5 grid can be achieved in many ways for play testing.

If the zones were two square in size (left and right  not front and back). this would need a  12 x 5 grid.
Most folks 5x3 feet mat is 10 x 6 lots of 6" squares.

How about all zones 2 squares but flank zones 1 square.  Nobody goes there anyway (?)
This would give the necessary  6 zones width   i.e 6,12,12,12,12,6 widths.
The 5 zones depth .Ignore 1 row or  allow the attacker to deploy in his row 2 as the defender needs to be in row 1 for scenery benefits (Otherwise deployment outdistances potential scenery moves).

This sounds confusing, but it would allow plenty of space and the use of standard (?) RFCM templates.
I will draw a picture if that helps clarify my ramblings?

Don't worry. FM is still at the sharp end.

Martin,
My head is aching. A rough sketch would be worth at least a hundred words 😉.
Thanks,
Simon

A hundred words is easy for me. But a picture...crikey.
Will put one up tomorrow and amaze the world (possibly).

Here is a picture that might help a bit?

Colonel Kilgore

Martin,

Sorry to have kept you up so late working on this - all is now clear!

Thanks,

Simon

So, I still don't understand why the grid size cannot be a module of 6" x 12" so as to allow the use of our existing scenery units.

Has a game been played on this size grid?
