Here players will have news from uMbongo, as we move towards the game day. Expect propaganda, news paper articles and reports from the BBC's embedded reporter on the ground.

More news as we get it.

martin goddard

I will make sure the BBC are "embedded".

Worrying news from the Associated Press, I see. But not yet also reported by the BBC's own Special Correspondent.

Can this be corroborated? Or is it fake news, perhaps planted by a faction ( ;)) with its own agenda?

uMbongoan state media has denied claims that the the refinery has been attacked and that in fact Kurtz is a terrorist and a bounty has been placed on his head. .

Unofficial reports are corroborating the AP report that severe damage has been caused and that Government forces suffered severe casualties.

President Martin Chumbawumba has appeared on state TV denouncing calls for the end to his rule and says that up coming elections will vindicate his position and that the people love him.

Here is the map of Republic of Democratic uMbongo.

More information as we get it...

Here is the national flag of uMbongo. Those of you loyal to the present government may wish to use the colours or the flag itself to show your loyalty.

The seperatists amongst you may have your own flags to rally beneath. It would be greta to see them between now and the big day.

Sean,
Am I correct in thinking that the uMbongo National Conservation Area League Supporters (UNCALS) have invited a junior member of the British monarchy to visit in order to raise awareness of the illegal ivory trade?
Should anything happen to threaten the safety of the young Royal, then executive action by an un-named group cannot be ruled out.

You have some good sources Mike! You are indeed not incorrect.

OK, to manage expectations, there will be news items from me on a roughly weekly basis from now on, leading up to the event. Although October seems a long way away, AK Day is only just over 14 weeks away, or 102 days to be exact.

Anyone wishing to contribute their own news story is welcome! Lets make this a community project to build a story line in the run up to the day. October 9th is election day in uMbongo. The fate of the nation is in your hands!

If your story involves your own army for the day all the better. Think you have a claim to the long lost throne of uMbongo? Tell us about it! Do you support President Chumbowumbo? Then have a think about what you might do to help quell the surge of public opinion against him. His approval rating is at 32% - an all time low!

This is the official blog for the AK Day. Any contributions here will be added to the blog to build the story. If all goes well, then this could be an ongoing thing with an annual AK Day.

The inaugural day will determine whether or not the President clings on to power. Who knows where the story may go from there?

Profile of the Head of Logosia

An article appeared recently in Le Canard enchaîné profiling the leader of Logosia, uMbongo's north-western neighbour.  I understand that more articles are planned that will shed light on possible murky goings-on within that country. I am both translating and paraphrasing from the original French, so please forgive any errors of fact or interpretation that appear below.

Modern Logosia was formed in the wake of the post-World War 2 retreat from Africa of the colonial powers. Its first President was Victor gO-gO (born of proud ethnic gOans on both sides of his family) who managed a largely bloodless separation from his French overlords. Following Victor's sad demise (details are hard to come by, but rumours persist involving a week-long party fuelled by locally-produced mind-enhancing substances, the  attendance of several dozen members of aspiring girl bands, a container-load of contraband alcohol, the presidential swimming pool and a candlestick...), he was succeeded by his favourite son, Alphonse.

Alphonse led a privileged childhood and studied at the École Spéciale Militaire de Saint-Cyr (ESM). By all accounts, he was a decent student, if a little too keen during his nights out on the more exclusive liquid products of Scotland. Naturally, the young Aspirant A. gO-gO soon acquired the nickname of "Whisky", by which he is commonly known today (at least behind his back).

Having ascended to the head of the family firm as President-for-Life, "Whisky" has proved himself to be a popular leader with the largely uneducated rural population of his land, who fondly refer to him as Papa. Voices of dissent have significantly decreased in recent years, coincidentally in line with the growth of the presidential crocodile farm.

More on Papa Whisky's relationships with domestic and foreign powers, his rumoured ambitions in uMbongo and the size and state of his armed forces, are hoped to follow in future posts, gleaned from similarly reputable news outlets.

The old candlestick incident, eh? I hope he wasn't burning both ends 😂🔥🤣

Mbongo's relationship with Logosia has been fractious over the years, but Dr Chumbowumbo is always ready to offer the monkey tree branch of peace and reconciliation.

Some small bits of tidying up completed to the blog, with a more modern map added.

Looking good, Sean. I see that the luscious green of the 1952 original had faded, making me believe that there was rather more desert than may actually be the case...

This makes Northern uMbongo an even more attractive addition to the great land of Logosia :)
