Besides of the confederate army slow updating process I showed you some weeks ago, my other main project of this year consists of building a large Ottoman army, for an upcoming 1714-1718 Ottoman-Venetian war campaign.

As my 2020 budget for purchases was (and still is!) pretty narrow, I committed myself to taking advantage of the most figures possible from my lead mountain, in spite of eventual timeline disparities. Sadly, money stubbornly keeps pretending to be king!

As a first trial, I chose to start with some irregular foot regiments, in the hope ehat their nature would somehow help mask figures themselves eccentric origin. So there it came a first result, by mixing Capitan's 18mm Barbary corsairs with a few A. Barton's ACW zouaves (anathema!!!)

Link to original installment (more pictures, but Catalan language only - sorry: https://soldadets.blogspot.com/2019/09/timariotes-otomans-i.html

Encouraged by a not too bad result IMHO, I quickly built a second unit of that same style - but now trying to add a couple of Peter Pig figures to the gang. It was a too daring bid, for I was admitedly pushing forward too much a quesionable mix of 18mm, large 15mm and pure 15mm figures there! Well, this is what it looks like now:

At this point I felt optimistic enough to purchase some brand new, specifically ottoman figures, selecting then two brands to pick my collection from: Legio Heroica (Italy) and Wargamer.pl (Poland). With their stuff and a small pick up from Peter Pig I then built my first feudal cavalry unit:

Followed soon afterwards by a second one, intendedly representing Rumelian troopers:

It was time now for some regular provincial troops. Again, my favourite makes for this task were Legio Heroica and Wargamer.pl. Somewhere I had read that provincial tüfekçi (=musketeers) wore mainly red coats, so I tried to give a more uniform look to the following regiments:

At this point I thought it was time for some commanders to put a little order among this crowd, so I painted a general (again from Wargamer.pl):

Assisted by a few subordinate commanders:

And, like some sort of Troy Horse, a Greek leader deliberately painted so as to perform either as a Rumelian subgeneral or a rebel Greek general:

My latest addition to this army is another irregular foot unit, using this time Peter Pig's Barbary corsairs only:

Now I'm working on a handful of batteries and carriages, that I'll show to you as soon as possible, along with some other turkish delights in workbench.

Cheers,
Lluís

Me too, Andy. Same thing with Lluis's previous post, but I went back to his original link in that case. I think I may need to reboot my PC at some point as I suspect it's some cache-clearing issue.

The links that Lluis kindly provided below each picture (or empty white rectangles in our case) worked for me.

Simon C may be able to offer some advice on why these pictures aren't showing for some of us?

Superb work...

Terrific figures and painting...

We are HTTPS now, some browsers now won't load images from a HTTP source. This will become more prevalent

The source location of the image files is HTTP (www.wargames.cat) . Even when the image show - you probably see the the padlock in the URL bar is now broken - and marked insecure.

Lluis of Minairons

Just what I suspected  :(  Thanks for confirming.
So bad for me, because I've always hosted all my images in that server of my own - and quite logically I'm not going to migrate them to the cloud now.

Colonel Kilgore

Simon,

Thanks for this explanation. I actually have the same problem with (not) seeing the Walter Schnaffs images you've just posted too ;)

Switching from Chrome to Edge Chromium has done the trick for me - I can now see the pretty pictures!

My image hosting website is SSL secured now. Can pictures be watched now, despite browser used?

Yes Lluis, excellent painting and modelling.
And the pictures are great as well.

This weekend I've finished painting my Ottoman's muscle - some artillery:

In XVIII century games few batteries are deployed usually, so that I had got accustomed to build just three for every army (one of each: light, field and heavy); such I did with either my Bourbon Spanish and Austro-Catalans, at least. But in this particular case I sensed it wiser to build up to five of them, several of which could perform different roles.

All models and figures in this set were traded with Hinds Figures Ltd., in exchange for others belonging to discarded projects. Due to this, I don't know their respective makes, except for some of the crewmen who are unequivocally from Essex. Once in my hands, these miniatures were washed, repainted and rebased according to my own style.

Carriages in the picture above are an exception to this repainting practice. I liked them so much that I left them as they were, only changing the original riders for other, more appropriate ones.

Very nice, Lluis - they did turn out well!
