Still a further provincial infantry regiment just finished, prior to starting a bunch of the much needed Janissaries:

Please notice that this time I've painted them using 70.841 Andrea Blue instead of the customary red --a colour that in my opinion matches quite well the 'Smyrna Blue' used in Janissary uniforms; for, as said, I'm planning to paint some janissaries now and I wished to test that paint  ::)

Such odd uniform, besides of their also odd flag combining Muslim and Christian symbols, can be useful for personalizing the unit depending on scenario settings (i.e. guard men of a provincial notable, levies from a Christian region of the Empire, or whatever the needing it can arise).

Outstanding work, especially those flags!

Do you have any tips and tricks you usually employ when painting the flags? Do you print the flag and paint over it?

Lluis of Minairons

I just design them on my PC and then take them to a printshop, where they're printed on regular paper.
Later I glue them around their staffs using PVA glue. I find it to be an ideal glue, that allows me a few minutes to mould and bend the flag at will before it dries out.
Paper flags always leave a white edge all around, that one must mask with paint for a best effect.
That's all, actually.

Lluis, is that not the way we all do flags?

Lluis of Minairons

If reading Noktu's question, it seemed to me that obviously not - for he asked me how I painted them.

Regarding my ever growing Ottoman army, this one below is my first Household Cavalry (or Kapikulu Sipahi) regiment. Figurs are intended to represent Oglan regiment, and I have used figures mainly from Legio Heroica (Italy) and Wargamer.pl (Poland) there.

I can't swear how their uniform was, if any was worn - but whatever the uniform colours, what I had learnt for sure is that their standard was red with two yellow crescents. So in the end I thought it better to paint them red too, with yellow trousers and light purple sashes.

Lances were made with 40mm long styrene rods (some 0.75mm diameter I guess). Figures came with optional round shields, that I've kept just for a couple of them, in the belief that by the start of 18th century they possibly were no longer used in the battlefield.

That's some lovely painting, Lluis!

And the flag's not too bad either  :)

Time for still another Ottoman General; today one from the polish brand wargamer.pl, that I've accompanied by a foot figure from Essex performing as flag bearer:

Flag has been designed by myself on the basis of ottoman symbols picked from the Net, conveniently textured on my PC and printed at a printshop.

My first Janissary regiment at last!

I've built it as of 18 figures in 3 x 1.5 cm stands (or should I better say 1.18 x 0.59 inches?  ;D), with one of these performing as command stand.
Most of figures are from the polish brand Wargamer.pl, with the sole exceptions of drummer and two musketeers from good old Minifigs.

original installment, and more pictures, on my blog: http://soldadets.blogspot.com/2021/05/orta-de-genissers-i.html

Color scheme consists of blue green coats (Vallejo 70.808 Blue Green with a drop of white), red sashes, Smyrna blue waistcoats and trousers (70.845 Andrea Blue lowered with a drop of 70.901 Sky Blue), as well as pale yellow facings and feathers (70.837 Pale Sand); hats are white with a red fringe.

Going for more now!

Lluis,
Very nice figures and painting. It's a very colourful army.

Best wishes,

Yet another Janissary regiment, after a long while of serious 'traffic jam' on my workbench!
(Too many exciting projects altogether!)

Luis It's something we have a "traffic jam" of projects either on or at least lined up to go onto the workbench. Sometimes projects can overtake the workbench, like the ACW ships I ve done of late ! I was doing a few then ended up doing about 20 or so ?
Keep up the good work !

This is a remarkably nice looking Ottoman Army.
