I moved mine across the Channel.

Sort of thought to myself--Well thats my Medievil French back where they belong.

Terry

Assuming you got Medieval English to go with them, it's also where they belong. 😉

Great variety in rules and period, very little variety in figures.  :)

I'm 4 and 2, in that I try to game once a week, but it's often a different game each week. At the monthly club, the game could be anything although I usually avoid pre-gunpowder topics. Otherwise I play with a mate who (heretically) lusts over Lardy rules, particularly Chain of Command and Sharp Practice. I'm not a great fan of either, but at his house we play his rules.

I like Perfect Captain rules (RCW & AWI), Rank and File, Fireball Forward, Combat HQ and Crossfire. I've concluded that I appreciate variety and simplicity along with plausible outcomes and narrative. I think that if you want variety, you have to have simplicity but that doesn't mean you can't have a fair degree of realism.

I have made a recent resolution to play more PP games though. I used to play a lot of AK and PBI so intend to restart them along with SB. My house, my rules.  ;)

Workbench and Suggestions / Re: Early war British

Good question Stewart, I've been holding off buying EW Brits in the light of the recent German resculpts. Plenty to get on with in the meantime so I'm going to wait.

I had thought of using AK47 infantry with G3s, troops with berets I think. However, they have rolled up sleeves which struck me as less suitable.

Civil War Battles / Re: ACW Battle Day at Entoyment

I'm interested, however my availability depends entirely on the date. Assuming house arrest ends, I'll be away all of September, part of October and all of November. If it's before mid August, I could do it.  I have a lot of figures, but they're based differently, so may not be suitable.

Here's the output for June.  Kornilov Shock Regiment/Battalion, depending on rules in use. I've used some late war French with head swaps amongst the Russians. A good enough table top standard for my liking.

I agree Simon.

3D printing is the next big thing (I guess???).
Maybe, one will buy  a file and be able to change the animation of the figure.
Thus, you buy a file to print napoleonic infantry. Then there are options within the file to change the animation a lot  or a little.

Like action man??  Then you could have his scar as an option. :)

And Eagle Eyes.

Commission Figurines does some very good trays in various sizes. They're designed for 4 & 9L boxes.

Mounting board for bases, difficult to cut accurately, pre cut MDF so much easier and doesn't warp.

Oil paints, take ages to dry and messy. Acrylics so much more user friendly.

On a more controversial note - will metal figures become outdated ? I hope not but there is an increase in plastic and resin ones :-(

Mike

Metal figures outdated?
I doubt it. 3D printing is the emerging threat but not there yet. I think the tooling involved in injection moulding makes it workable for serious mass production, but unviable for the sort of variety we want.

I'm not sure resin offers much over metal for smaller scales. Don't have any figures so had to say. I do like resin for wheeled vehicles as they're considerably tougher than plastic, and my metal ones all ways end up with wonky wheels.

I like plastic for AFVs but can't love the figures. Flat poses, fragile weapons. I'm not sure that the multipose approach would work on 15mm. Wargames Factory did some limited figures but they didn't work for me. Bottom line, I think metal will be around for a while yet.

'Fauda' on Netflix. Brilliant.

Humbrol enamels. I doubt I need to explain why.
Modroc for terrain building, heavy, difficult to sculpt and still needs texturing. I use Luke's APS sculpt a mold confection now. Much better.

General discussion / Re: Currently Reading
June 21, 2020, 10:16:50 PM
I've just finished 'Commando,' Durnford Slater's wartime memoirs. A great read, no particularly new info but interesting perspective. Before that, 'Daylight Robbery,' off topic but a brilliant read. I'm now halfway through 'A Dorset rifleman,' basically rifleman Harris with edits and additions from other sources. I hadn't realised just how awful the retreat to Corunna was, particularly for the camp followers. Next up, 'The Sword and Scimitar,' a history of the Islamic conquests of Christian lands around the Mediterranean.

General discussion / Re: Next unit

Three possibilities for me:
1. A unit of RCW cavalry, actually 2 units but I'll probably do them separately.
2. Dismounted AWI dragoons
3. A platoon of 1940 Norwegians converted from Dutch.

As an aside, I'm coming to the conclusion that the PP Dutch are some of the most useful figures around. With head swaps they work for all sorts. The Italians would be good too but their packs limit their usefulness.
