Hi guys,

This is a sort of additional question to that posed by Peterloo a few days ago.
I know that (sadly) the PBI Black Boxes are no longer available but I would like to know if anyone could tell me what the Company/Platoon organization was in the French Infantry 1940 box (come in Martin?) before I launch into buying stuff from Mr Pig.
Many thanks in advance.
Best,

Stephen

If I remember correctly the black boxes were 'pointed' up for the old set of rules, with the release of the new set and new points for most things the boxes were obsolete.
If you buy the company lists you will see the basic starting point is 3 infantry platoons then you go from there.

Stewart,
Many thanks for that.  I'll add the lists to my Xmas wish list!

I can't tell you what was in the box - but a French company 1940
Company commander Pistol + 1 Rifle base + a 60mm Ltmortar (but they never had them as they were not issued in time for the battle of france)
4 platoons - each platoon commander pistol or rifle  2 rifle grenadiers (I combine them to make a lt.mortar base) 3Lmgs 6-9 rifles.

in support they had troops of 4mmg and 2 Mmortar.(but a battalion only had 1 troop of M.Mortar and 4 troops of MMg)

I can tell you what was in the Black Boxes:

(see pages 25 / 26). However, as Stewart points out, the points system and army lists have changed somewhat since the version of the rules for which these boxes had been compiled. Fortunately, the PBI Company Architect list book is very complete, and well worth adding to any Christmas List!

there is a very good site on google (look up French DCL 1940) - gives complete break downs on French mechanised units.
Mechanised infantry , transported in armoured laffty all terrain trucks = to halftracks really.
the base squad was 10 men, 2lmg -6rifles = 2lmg 2 Rifle 3 squads to the platoon,  in PBI terms, so a platoon was platcom + rifle grenades (lm) 6lmg 6 rifles.  4 platoons to the company. in addition each Coy had 4mmg in a mmg platoon.

the uniform appears to be a leather coat over normal uniform instead of a great coat. colour looks to be a lightish brown.
