Completed another Walter Schnaffs game on Monday. This time however the French were committed to an attack as the Prussians performed dismally in the pre-game campaign. Although the Prussians were in defence with many troops in reserve, they constructed a difficult terrain to get through, which slowed up the French. On top of this the Prussian corps artillery delivered a successful bombardment, which further slowed the French.

As the game came towards its conclusion the French acquired a hold the line asset which enabled them to avoid a morale check, but were then held by withering fire. And then the Prussians rolled 6 and the game ended. The French had lost a lot of troops, including two full regular units, and they had only taken the two closest objectives. As a consequence the Prussians had held the field that day.

Nice picture Leman! Nice report too. I'm tempted to try Franco Prussian at some point probably in 6mm though us8ng Baccus. Are yours Pendraken..? They are tempting too!

The picture is courtesy of you pointing me towards Tiny pic; many thanks for that. Yes the figures are predominantly Pendraken 10mm, but there are a couple of Irregular figures in there as well (the mounted Prussian officer is the most noticeable in shot). This is one of my major gaming periods so I was really pleased to be able to use this stuff with Square Bashing. However I also do a lot of FPW in 6mm specifically for the Bloody Big Battles rules, which make refighting the historical scenarios on a 6x4 possible in almost all cases, including the likes of Mars la Tour and Gravelotte-St.Privat. Most of my 6mm Bavarians are Baccus:

they look good. They convey mass well.

I am not averse to using different scale figures for different levels of game. I like my 15mm WWI figures for company level games. I tend to use them with scenarios that could have happened within a historical setting, e.g. protecting a group of Belgian refugees as they try to get off the table, a surprise attack on a German forward supply dump, holding an important river crossing. I have found the book Scenarios For All Ages by Grant and Asquith to be very useful for this, as well as developing scenarios in Neil Thomas' One Hour Wargames.

Simon(no not one of ours) from Wiltshire did two armies of 10mm for the SB day back in 2000?? they looked really good. He had gone for pale colours with a wash to bring out the detail. I believe they were Turkish and Brit armies. I believe he doubled everything, but retained the base size. So a gun base had two guns on it.  Very nice.
