SCW gun crew

At first glance I thought the SCW gun crew in beret was a WWI German gun crew in feldmutzen. On second viewing I wondered if they could actually be used as a German gun crew looking a bit worse for wear after toiling over hot guns for a few weeks (or even days in high summer) on campaign. Any thoughts?

I am not an expert on uniform so paint them as WW1 , at 15mm on the table top I am sure they will look the part
