I suppose this is really an offshoot of Hammerin' Iron, but it's not to do with the rules. One of my favourite rulesets is Chris Pringles' Bloody Big Battles. I have tried a couple of his ACW scenarios with my 15mm figures and found them very enjoyable, but then I remembered I had bought some of the 3mm figures for Hammeri' Iron, so I thought how spectacular the BBB scenario for Shiloh would look in 3mm. Checked the price of the 3mm blocks and concluded I would be able to do this for a very reasonable outlay, e.g. the extra infantry for BOTH sides will come to £33. I would need some extra artillery and a USS Tyler to complete things, and I already have a USS Switzerland to bring Grant down river. Oh yes, another new project.

What sort of footprint will your game have at this scale?

thanks
Simon

Admittedly the Switzerland is not the Tigress, but it's a reasonable proxy. I might as well put another paddle steamer in as well to represent Buell's troops arriving.

I am intending to play this game using Bloody Big Battles. The scenario (available on the Yahoo Group site) is a 4'x2.5' table, so quite small. All bases will be 30x20mm. As an example Hardee's corps is 7 bases plus one artillery base. I will be using one block of infantry/cavalry/artillery/ skirmishers per base. The skirmishers will be representing dismounted cavalry.

I'll be interested to see it

Will pop something up on this thread as soon as I have my first units of Hardy's corps ready to photo. Likely Sunday as out walking all day tomorrow.

Leman (Andy)

Well, time to see if I can post onto this thread. If successful, these are my first three bases of Hardee's corps. Incidentally my stuff to complete this project arrived yesterday so I have immediately got stuck in to doing the rest of Hardee's corps plus Forrest's mounted and dismounted cavalry.

Progress so far with the 3mm Shiloh project. I am now more than slightly halfway through the Confederate army for the BBB scenario.

Things are coming on  apace with this project now. The Confederate army is complete and I am now into the Union troops. Here is the Confederate army with a couple of close ups.

Cheers Colonel. PP will be getting another honourable mention as I've been asked to write an article about 3mm ACW gaming for the ezine ACW Gamer.

Colonel Kilgore

Congratulations, Leman.

Is that a freebie ezine you could link to from here, or does one need to pay for access?

Leman (Andy)

It is one that has a subscription, but is very reasonable. Individual copies can be bought through Wargame Vault, or a slight saving may be made by getting a year subscription of $12 for four issues. The website is:

Thank you Leman. Please let us know when you've completed your article!

The bigger bases are an excellent idea for tactile reasons.
Roads and rivers might be a problem due to being knocked about?

have you seen the material ona frame stretched type scenery that Weigal(?) uses for his napoleonics?

Very very nice ACW old chap
