Multiple assaults on a square

A situation came up in a game which led to a very rare disagreement between myself and my gaming buddy.
Situation: six SMG bases using a gully to get to facing square of an objective. Defending the objective weretwo LMGs and an SMG (pinned).
I wanted to assault with three bases to avoid the assaulters being clustered for HTC shooting. Sending the remaining three bases to assault the same objective square if the first assault was defeated.
My buddy cried foul. Saying that you can't split an assault originating from the same square and I couldn't wait to see the result of one assault then launch another from the same square targeting the same square. In other words no 'waves' of assault.
I thought this legitimate. But we've been playing PBI together for 15 years and our convention is that if your opponent is really unhappy with what tout want to do you don't do it.

Question is it allowed to assault a target square twice using different assaulting bases from the same originating square?

Colonel Kilgore

Not that I think this will change the answer, but out of curiosity were all the bases in the assaulting square part of the same platoon?

Yes you can carry out  multiple assaults from the same square.
The limit is 6 bases per assault.

A player could launch 6 assaults of 1 base each. The here they come shooting will mitigate against this or any  small assaults.

In your example the first 3 bases would suffer 1AP of here they come shooting as the target is pinned.
However, if the target wins, the attacker will be in trouble and the target removes any pinned or taking cover markers.

This is in the rules P110 3rd para from end sort of covers this?

Ooh. Now that is an interesting thing. Not something I'd considered before. But as Martin says, all pinned and dead are removed by following the first assault if they win. You'll be hoping that you can take a couple of bases off to reduce them down a bit I suppose ready for the follow up assault.

Hope your gaming friend isn't too upset by this. Does he visit here? We can console him with the times we've all snatched defeat from the jaws of victory ✌️

Thanks guys, and Martin for confirming what i thought was the case. Although i had forgotten about the Pin being removed.

Sean, yes, they were from the same platoon.

Buy your friend a Mars bar and thank him for the games.

Worry not, he's fine. We've been gaming together for 30 years. He does live down your way (sort of) near Fareham. We have talked about coordinating me visiting him for a game with a PBI day at Entoyment.

We alternate between his and mine in Norwich, playing every 5-8 weeks. Being so far we proper binge in two full gaming days. Day 2 is always PBI, playing four or five games.

Hi Nigel may be you and your friend want to consider the Weymouth games weekend, all Peter Pig games played all weekend

I can see where the argument began, as the rules say that "If the player has more than 6 bases ready to assault the excess (more than 6) can save their assualt AP and move in after assualt or do their own assualt"

This is different from the interpretation above, so as written, the attacker square would need more than 6 bases to be able too launch a second assualt, even if he chose to only use 3 in the first!

A wording maze!

Better to think of it as each assualt can be up to 6 bases, but each base can only be involved in 1 assualt on a turn (its last AP).

One of the comments above also includes winners dead being removed? Although common to PeterPig games I can't see any reference to this in PBI, so have always played it as they dont, and can result in enemy dead being left in the fight square if not enough survivors to drag them out! A big morale problem!

We have thought about doing this as it works be lovely to meet chaps from the forum.
We tend to play weekdays (we're both retired now) and alternate between Fareham and Norwich (where i live). As it's so far we binge over two full days with Day 2 dedicated to PBI.
When is the Weymouth weekend?
