Hello all. I am struggling with matching up army/political descriptions to the newer army types in V3 ?
I know Martin left this vague so no country is named which is PC especially at the moment! But it doesn't help someone like me who can't decipher which political stance would go with some Armies ?
V2 I thought the Army lists were very good guides to a fit a force to that political standing !
Siege of Jadotville I am trying to fit both the UN Irish force and the Katanga Forces to Army types ?
Now Katanga is a Democratic Republican Party so is this People's Popular front or maybe Warlord uprising? Also trying to fit what the army can have in its list as well as its possible stance ? People's Popular I like as you can call in once per turn anything you like ? In Communication? So they could have an Airstrike at some point as per film ?
The Irish need Light Armour and mainly Regulars in their line up. Obviously are meant to be "peacekeepers ?"
So any thoughts on this are most welcomed ?
Any help in putting certain political stances to their Army types would be useful please ?

I thought the whole purpose of these army lists is that they can represent what you like. Lets face it the USSR were only Communist in name, like modern day China. How many democratic armies are from democratic countries? Let your imagination run wild.

I don't think you meed to be so prescriptive about it Miles. Ignore what the army is called and just look at what it contains. Look for the one that fits your idea of what you want in the army and use that.

Maybe not the answer you want, but I think the beauty of AK is its flexibility and generic nature. The army names are really just a guideline.

Thank you Sean, it is and isn't maybe the right answer but it's something to think about.

If it is for your scenario  Miles I suggest you just make up whatever you want. there will not be any complaints I am sure.
Are you letting players use any army and point it up as they like, or are you defining the forces?

For Jadotville it can be any two forces ? The only thing that is different is the Scenery will be a pre determined set up ? With the main "Village" with trenches in between. The Defenders Special scenery will be where the Garage is ? As this is the company HQ. The Attacker can also put there Special Scenery piece in place somewhere opposite the CHQ ? Remember the man in the White Suit ? Was standing next to a building!
Jadotville does quite nicely fit into an AK47 game. Obviously the Attacker is going to be facing a fully prepared position ? As I ve said before the Trenches will count as the Partial templates as allowed in the game, which normally would be the Shanty buildings! I thought by having the trenches Partial, this will make them not quite impossible to break thru ?
The rest I need to work out if there should be any guidelines sorted out for the Scenario? So will need to play test the scenario a couple of times before February?
Simon and myself version of Wild Geese is relatively straightforward with a few Scenario changes to fit the game needs.
We have where possible tried to keep the game scenarios true to there films but also as true to the game rules as well ? With only the minimal of scenario aspect changes as possible ? Enough to keep the character of the film(s) without compromising the rules too much !

I will, as I intend to do an article for a future "Mill" at some point!
As this is the sort of historical event that AK47 was made for ? Especially after it has made into a film ? As I will be using the Film set as the basis to the game set up more than the maps ?
The film sets are more practical as they are stripped down/out to allow access etc but also show only the needed buildings and not every building on a map, much like a 12 x 6 template ? Otherwise the dinning table would become very clogged up and the gaming mat a lot bigger ? Lol
So a combination of the two, otherwise some films take out too many things  and give you false information on other things ? In Siege of Jadotville film they make the Bridge at Lufira River seem just up the road ? As you can hear the gunfire ? But in reality it's 16 Miles away ?
