Multiple attacks on a square

Can I just clarify some points from p74 of the rules when a zone is attacked from more than one direction.

If the first attack is successfull, then the target withdraws (unless tactics applied), so the second attack no longer has a target.

The rule says the second attacker "still counts as having won the fight" so what benefits does this give ?

A) removal of casualties
B) winning the fight markers
C) another pursuit roll?
D) cavalry destruction roll

As the rule clearly states such multiple attacks are NOT simultaneous, so although I can see a case for A and B, as the troops morale will be higher, the case for c) and d) is poor as the enemy has already gone!

So what does the second win achieve?

Personally I think none of the benefits should apply, they were just too late! Otherwise such attacks could be exploited to just get cheap winning the fight markers or remove casualties, based on the first attacker being a good bet to win. Second pursuit and cavalry destruction could be a game changer as any second flank cavalry attack could wreak havoc.

Hello Graham

If the target has already fallen back due to previous assault, the 2nd assaulter ONLY counts as winning the fight.

The reason behind this is that no fight will take place and thus no casualties can be created. There is no fight.  However, the 2nd assaulters have still seen the enemies fall back. Hence the "winning the fight" markers.
