2017 Squarebashing day - Gallery

The 2nd Squarebashing day was held on 24th June at Battlefield Hobbies in Daventry. We had 14 entrants in total travelling as far south as Weymouth  and north from Bakewell. The theme for this years event was 1917, marking the 100th anniversary. Armies could be taken from any theatre as long as they were from 1917. The competitors were drawn into 2 pools - Central Powers and Allies , and over 2 games we played a Swiss style draw. The modus operandi is not one of competition but of like minded gamers who can play games against opponents they don’t normally play against. The emphasis is on having a jolly day!

On a warm - but not too warm - Saturday morning the troops gathered and started deploying their troops

After the first round it was a close run thing with the Central Powers shading the results 4 games to 3

Chris B taking first for the Central powers - sneaking to the top with solid results with bonus points of taking a poorly rated army



The allies won the 2nd round 4-3. But overall while a draw of 7 victories each, the allies did shade the total points totals 1100+/- to just 980+/- to the Central Powers.

A big thanks to Mr Lurkio for organising this fantastic event, all held in a very friendly spirit and - as last year - in a great venue (that doubled as an irresistible Aladdin's cave of gaming ware in the front shop...).

It was good to meet both new and familiar faces, and to see the high standard of figures and terrain in use.

Roll (ha!) on next year: 1918-themed, presumably [Brit infantry get double shooting points for having oodles of Lewis guns...]?

Sounds like you all had some excellent games, with the day in Weymouth used as good revision those who don't play Square bashing quite so often.

Thoroughly enjoyed.my day even though I was.somewhat rusty on the rules. Two great games and terrific company. I'll post my own pictures up at the weekend.

I think i will learn the rules too!
Had a game with Miles today.  in his new Man house. Really good game. Possibly too tough on the Brits as it is really difficult to kill Germans in trenches.
Think i would prefer the support squares to be 2 or more infantry/cav bases??  Otherwise field guns start backing up infantry assaults.
