This year is well known as the 80th anniversary of D Day and other 1944 battles of WW2.
There is an RFCM battle day scheduled at Entoyment 8th June. This is probably the Saturday where D day events will be scheduled all over the country.

It looks like Mike and the gang might be doing their D day at Nothe etc. This is great and certainly appropriate.

I wonder if Entoyment will want the Saturday 8th for a big D Day event of their own?
Are  members here also doing something else on that Saturday such as attending a D day parade or event?

For those not involved elsewhere do you want to do some games at Entoyment.

Stewart is the master of this event though.

I put this up so that we can give opinions 4  months ahead of the event(s)..
I have no fixed advice or opinion at this stage.

Maybe move the battle day in view of the above.
Maybe put on some PBI at Entoyment?
Maybe........

Assuming the diary is free, I'm up for anything going on.

Nothe Fort is rather special. I have fond memories of your Cambrai game there, Martin.

Ben is interested as long as he isn't working a shift at Beaulieu.

Big Mike

Guys,
Here is an update re the 80th Anniversary games for D-Day. We are not going to the Nothe Fort on 8th June as we could not make suitable arrangements for a wargame event there.

Instead we are at Entoyment on Saturday 8th June. Miles and I are refighting the Gold Beach game.
Stewart his running his Omaha Beach game and Martin will be offering a 3rd option with a PBI game, possibly based on the action at the Merville Battery.

Other groups are planning D-Day games using a variety of rules on 8th June at Entoyment so it should be a memorable event.

I drove past a sign for Beaulieu on Sunday. I then spent an unreasonable  amount fo time wondering how it is pronounced.

I went with 'Bo Loo'.

But I'm intrigued what the correct pronunciation is!

Sean Clark

I  hoping to make this, but it's a bit too far out for me to commit at the moment.

Hi Sean
Locally its buu-lee, but if you look on line there are a few different pronunciations! i.e

To pronounce "Beaulieu":
Break it down into sounds: [BYOO] + [LEE].
Say it out loud and exaggerate the sounds.
Record yourself saying 'beaulieu' in full sentences.
Watch yourself and listen to improve your pronunciation1.Alternatively, for "Beaulieu en Argonne":
Pronounce "Beaulieu" as "Boh-lee-uh" with emphasis on the first syllable.

Just two miles from us, so Ben has an easy drive when at work.

I'd say BEW LEE unless you are an "Ampshire Og", then it is probably BOO LEE. It is the home of the National Motor Museum, the remains of Beaulieu Abbey, Palace House (stately home) and a small museum about the WW2 secret army forces that trained in the New Forest.

Rather like villages next to me is Walgherton, pronounced Wallerton, and Brewood, pronounced Brood  :D  :D

Funny enough we will be at the Motor Museum on Saturday, Ben has got his mum tickets for an event she wanted to see.

I don't want my potential shore battery game to undermine any of the beach landings in terms of players available.
The shore battery game only needs 2 or maybe 3 players.
It can run 2 or 3 times in the day.

ie do the beach landings have enough players to run nicely?
