Martin has got us a spare table at Colours for this year.
He has said he will do a "simple" PBI participation/Pratice game.
I was thinking we can do something similar, make it Simple but obviously more of a demonstration game.
Something that has a pre determined scenery set up, designed to look pleasant and functional 400 point game and based on 1944 ?
NW Europe, Russia ( Hungary or there about ?) Italy, Burma or the Pacific?
Designed to be a few turns ? Whether the game gets finished or not ?
Depending on how hot it gets this year ?
My initial thoughts was Monte Casino ? As I have a simple 20mm MDF model from Sarissa (this can be modelled whole or in Ruins) with some 8th Army type figures and German Paras.
Obviously this would be loosely based on what was there, but modified to make it a playable table and relatively easy to set up and take down ?
Also to be able to fit into my trolley ?
Or the other one is Band of Brothers Battle of Nuenen, where the Paras go into the town on the back of the British tanks, then get hit by the awaiting SP guns and troops.
A y thoughts or Ideas ?

That Montecassino does look really nice Miles

Colonel Kilgore

I agree with Martin - it would look spectacular!

Lovely looking model Miles.

I think doing something complex like a ruins game may be a bit too complicated for a participation game. Great for a demo game but....

I would have thought something more traditional, possibly early war 1940.  Can have a range of troops that way from normal German/British/French. Can also showcase Belgium and the Dutch for something a bit different.

I admit not to being an expert in the actual engagements that occurred so would suggest keep it a bit more generic.

Monte Cassino would indeed be for the demo game, Derek.

Martin is going to do the simple / participation game - he has more patience and doesn't mind his figures being chewed :)

Our game will be the Demonstration game with some good looking scenery on it, but still keeping it as a 400 point army game on a 4 x 4 table.
After Beachhead, I will get the Monte Cassino model out and make it up and see how it fits on a 4 x 4 table, before finally deciding if this is what we can go with ?
After last years game, I ve learned if we are going to do a "big" game it will be left to the 2 day and local show like Beachhead.
Whatever we do, I want it to be able to fit into my 4 wheeled trolley and make one trip ? As it's a bit chaotic at the end of the day packing up and getting out of there.
The other game we can go with is Battle of Nuenen, this can be set up as a classic demo game. 2 US Para platoon with 4 British tanks against 1 German platoon and 2 SP guns.
But we can discuss this at Beachhead.

Nuenen sounds a bit one-sided, Miles.

Are you going to play the Germans?  ;D

Simon

Remember the Germans won this particular battle on the day !

I'm sure that they weren't using rules as well-balanced as Martin's, then  ;D

Plus you forget this is a show game. It's not about trying to win the game. But to put on a display for a few hours in One days play ?
That's to be kept to playing at home or at a club.
Simon Seems you didn't quite learn all the lessons from lasts years Colours game ?
The game we put on at a one day show is a Demonstration game to show how a "Normal or Big a game" looks and feels rather than winning or losing ?
Yes it has to be based on what we would do if we were having a proper "Club" game. But you know time is not a thing of luxury at a show.
The Attacker is from a "show game" point of view meant to win, while the Defenders are meant to put up a good show of force but ultimately lose.
The same theory as Martins Participation game !
Yes we roll dice and the "Results" at that time are meant to be "Random and Real enough"  To make it look like a proper game.
But the game is never going to be finished on the day !
Take the game at up and coming Beachhead, on the day the Defenders are meant to lose, but the Attackers will lose a lot of men and Equipment to archive the result !
Hence why we play the game actually at club level a couple of times before and/or after the show. But on the day it's a show game.
As an Actual club game the Battle of Nuenen would have a Full German company and a Full US Para Company with their respective Supporting Tanks and SP guns, and would probably be a German win ?

Don't worry Miles.

Simon is gently teasing you. That is a problem with the internet. No reality.

You are fine.

Colonel Kilgore

Apologies, Miles.

I was only ribbing you.

I do realise that we likely won't get past Turn 2 in a demo game, and it's really all about the spectacle.
