Scoring of lost units

Does explicitly state that even 1/2 base on table means that you don't score lost units. However, this IMHO is really awkward. I've seen a lot of games where a 1/2 base is tucked away to avoid it being lost. Even worse is when a 1.5 base units leaves the table (losing a base and a .5 base gets put into reserve)... never to be brought on table
