Hi,

We had a 900 points "Walter Schnaffs" game today in Brittany... Six players (3 prussians and 3 french) fought in a december 1870 scenario (french army of the young 3rd Republic against a mix of prussian / bavarian troops). Victory went for the prussian side after a fierce battle, plenty of epic moments ...

French troops were attacking... Depletions turned terrible for prussian / bavarian troops...  :P

Here are some pictures of the drama...  ;D

Another very nice-looking game, and lovely figures. Well done, chaps!

Thanks Xavier for the beautiful pictures; I must point out that the scratch built houses typical of the Val de Loire region (the scenario played was loosely based on the battle of Loigny), are the piece of work of friend Georges, and some of the Bavarian units were painted by talented friend Sébastien.

Martin,

Some thoughts about the Walter Schnaffs / Square Bashing game we played this weekend:

- Considering the length of a 900 points table, we played 2 generals per side; it worked well, the only restriction being not allowing the two generals to accumulate orders attempts on a same square.

- We allowed a "residual dice" (same rule as with Fighting for Mexico), once all the points of an asset have been spent; again it worked well.

That's interesting on the scenario rules tweaks, Pierre.

Who made your figures for this game? The general's horse looks very like an Essex one that I've painted in the past - were they all from there, or a mix of manufacturers?

Hi Simon,

Indeed, most are Essex - some with headswaps - with a few Minifigs and Peter Pig guns (the Bavarian Feldl machine-gun for example is a Gardner gun from the PP colonial range, which looked almost the same).

Thanks Pierre.

Before I discovered Peter Pig, I was a big fan of Essex. They are, like PP, solid and made to be played with!

That looks fantastic. The terrain really works with the mat as well.  Very cool looking game.
