Bought a book called "warriors of the Ancient Greek world"
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1526778769?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

It features about 12 different warriors.
The special thing about this book is that it shows real people in  teh costumes.
The problem is that the costumes are re constructions so might not be 100% accurate.

I prefer the WW1 and WW2 ones which use actual uniforms. But time means that it is probably not feasible for ancient clothes.
Having a background in film costumes, the Luther makes a superb job of posing and picturing the uniforms

I believe this book is worth buying if you are interested in Greek soldiers.
I like it.

Not come across that one before Martin. I've just checked it out on Amazon - looks interesting.

Sean Clark

Curiouser and curiouser. Martin now has reference material for ancient Greeks. What can it mean? 🤔

Colonel Kilgore

An interesting line of thought, Sherlock Sean  :D

Leman (Andy)

I'm intrigued by the Idris Elba character mentioned.

I do like to sculpt an Idris figure in most ranges.
Just look at the Cossack foot cavalry officer.
Can you see the likeness?
Darned smelling corrector.

Warfare in the Classical World by John Warry is still on my bookshelf after 40+ years and my standard intro to all things Classical

The Medieval Soldier by G Embleton & J Howe is my go-to for all C15 uniform refs. - a credible reconstruction based on academic research

Thanks Neil

Sadly I bought it a couple of years ago for £22. Darn!

I did review it here. A good book with some great textural detail. Not that many warriors as some are photoed several times.
