That's a nice and tidy set-up, Simon. How did the games go?

That is nice Simon.
I really enjoy playing land raid games because it  has big chances of sudden swings.  Then another land raid game can be played.

yes, 2 quite quick games. Both favoured the defender massively

I was a nice 'lite' game

Colonel Kilgore

I usually lose as defender. But that may be a reflection on me.

The key thing is not to get too upset by any one game, as it can be volatile. Several games back-to-back (as we've done at WWW) can be great fun.

I agree with you chaps.

Some good fun games.

The land raid was designed to play out  semi chaotic raids.
In such raids communication often breaks down because of the confused scenery. Thsi amens men cannot see or hear each other. Night time adds further problems.

I like the system very much.
However it would not properly show modern organised raids.

It could model such raids as AK militias but that might cross an acceptable boundary.
It would model well the sacking of a town after the besiegers got in. Medieval and ancient. Crusades, Roman empire and Troy?
Maybe also Napoleonic Spain. At last a PP Napoleonic range?

A problem might be that players are reluctant to build forces for a quick/occasional game.

Your thoughts?

I've long been attracted to playing out the sacking of Troy (i.e. from the chaps jumping out of the big horse). I've never worked out how it could practically work as a game though.

Maybe here is an answer?

I think they are just 'gift shop' ornaments ... they are not mine.  They look nice enough though

Barbary Pirates raiding the Cornish Coast would be a good choice.

I don't think there are any problems per se. Different games for different time. This sort of thing would be great for a show demo/participation where its easy to reset every couple of hours

I think as whole the thing hangs together nicely. The only comment is around the campaign section (and this applies to most campaigns) where it relies on each player getting equal turns.  A neat mechanic would be to allow some one to play as many games as they like , but get diminishing returns.  Or a 'count your best 5' results type thing. So slackers who just play once are not overly disadvantaged, but you are not left waiting for them to 'do their turn'
