The push general is not as popular as fight and morale.

Therfore

Let us try this

(3),4,5,6 whole zone can assault a facing zone.

Detail
Own units might be amassed  on the face of an opponent zone.
Some or all  may have used up their movement for the turn.
At this point a roll of 3,4,5,6 (or  maybe 4,5,6?) will allow an assault to still happen.
Normal rolls for sideways movement still apply.
The roll only allows an assault not  just more movement.

The roll is necessary in order to stop push being too good.

That sounds tasty, Martin!

Umm, maybe it is me but I just don't get it.

Surely, provided one unit has a movement point left and it passes its dice roll it can assault. A push general negates the need to roll dice for sideways movement doesn't it? Any units without movement points left still add to the dice count for the assault but count as late.  I don't see how what you have said changes this in the slightest.

The only use I can see for this would be to allow a zone that had 2 failed morale tests to still assault.

Am I missing the point of what is being said?

No worries Derek.

Try this

You move your close order infantry units up to the face of an enemy zone using the allowed 1 zone of movement.

You then think "darn, I have used my 1 zone of movement to get here.  If only I could still assault ."
You are reminded that units need a spare zone of movement in order to carry out an assault.

Not to worry though. You have a "push" general. That is potentially good news.
You roll a D6 and score 5 (3,4,5,6 needed).
This allows you to carry out an assault even though you have already used the allowed single   zone of movement for close order units.

Push generals will no longer affect sideways movement  rolls.

The new idea should be more attractive to players (we will see??)

Thanks Martin.

Yes, I think that may make the option more usable and attractive as an option. Maybe rename it to RUSH from PUSH then.

Perhaps they could still impact on the sideways movement to a degree for assaults. i.e. Zone move alongside enemy zone with a push general. They have expended their 1 space of movement but the Push General would still allow the zone to assault from the flank on a roll of 5 or 6 (or maybe just a 6).

Will have to try this next game I do and see how it works.

Yes, the word push might be changed.
Are you at club on Saturday Derek 1st for Hastings?

I discounted "thrusting", "offensive" and "straining" from the thesaurus.
I quite like "havoc", "striker" or "assault".

How about "Aggressive", "Forceful", "Charging"...?

Sorry Martin. Otherwise engaged. Will be at a craft fair supporting my wife's crochet sales for charity. She is supporting the Pangolins for some strange reason. Ah well to each their own.

I think the next chance I get for a game (non-solo) may well be in November. :(
