This topic came up on my Watsapp group, after I mentioned the 'disappointing' WotR comment and how I mix figures anyway. I checked out my cavalry and there is indeed quite a marked difference between the old and the new. Below are my Belgian lancers, converted from the original German uhlans, alongside the current German dragoons.

So, how to deal with this as a lot of work has gone into it already. The decision I have come to is to use my leftover German uhlans as Belgian Guides and Chasseurs by means of headswaps, and use the new German uhlans for the German army. This will separate the old and the new into two discrete armies, thus enabling the wargamer's 3 foot (90cm) rule to kick in.

Size diferences in different units is almost unnoticeable on the table once battle is joined. Mixed in the same unit it can jar a little if you look too closely...but then my painting has that effect anyway 😅

Sean's right. Figures of slightly different sizes don't show/matter in different units albeit the same army. Add in the 3ft rule ........ This not only applies with the same manufacturer's early/later figures but also between manufacturers. For example, my early WW1 Tannenburg mini campaign game used a lot of Irregular Franco-Prussian war Prussians for variety (they are big 15s) and it was fine.
