Would love to see a drummer/standard Bearer to allow me to use the Government troops in larger battles... plus some generic gun crews.

Paul,

Have you looked at the AWI range? I bought some casualties from there to use with the Government troops in PoE.

You might be able to do something with one of the many Command packs in that range?

Yes, I did as an option, just slight differences in uniform and hats, but would pass if needed.  The Pirate range have Marlburian uniforms so no turnbacks, where the AWI have turnbacks...probably not too bad at 15mm.

A little bit of filing and filling could work, if it's only a few figures needed?

Don't be so fussy. How many troops in the field were in official dress uniforms? Filing and filling is probably not required for most occasions. Arguably, matching tricorns, jacket colour and trouser colour is excessive!

An awful lot of colonial powers relied heavily on locally raised militias, who as Bankinista so correctly points out would have been uniform in probably only the hat they were wearing and possibly weapons issued from a local garrison arsenal. The peasant straw hats of the SCW 6/125 would probably suffice for most militia troops...

Seasoned Govt. gun crews operating in tropical weather may well have looked no different to their pirate opposition - stripped to the waist or at best in navy issue clothing. The Hollywood vision of uniformed garrison troops manning cannon in action was only a visual cue for the audience. Only officers would have sported any sort of uniform and then only according to their personal wealth and social standing...
