Do you ever use this story to admonish your opponent's or your actions in a game?
In fact do you have any sayings or quotes you use on a regular (more than 6 times a year )?

I do use "events dear boy" when playing the Pirate land raid game.

Most often heard at our club are quotes from films...mainly Waterloo. Some favourites...

Never interrupt your enemy when he's  making a mistake.

The finest cavalry in all Europe but the worst led.

I dont need a horse to puff me by god.

You could drive  a battery of 9lbers  through there

and of course...

This pig acquired me sir.

What's the plan of attack?
It's a 50/50 certainty.
One more each and we'll be equal.
One leg's both the same.
If I get there first, I'll put a stone down. If you get there first, pick it up.

Never used Icarus though.

I had an opponent who would often use the expression "that's a different kettle of ducks" to describe a similar but different situation.

All those are good.
They are inoffensive and individual.
It identifies the opponent and personalises them.

We have a variant on your second one: The best painted figures on the table but the worst led.

Best wishes,

I've had that back-handed compliment in the past. It does at least make a poor player feel a positive contribution has been made to the look of the game, which for me is at least half of what it's about.
