Today I am mostly pre-shading trains

Colonel Kilgore

Ooh, that is fancy! They look very good like that.

Do please share what you do next with them.

Simon

Sean Clark

Nice work! Airbrushing I presume?

martin goddard

QuoteAirbrushing I presume?

correct

SimonC

base coated, and gloss varnished in prep for decals

Colonel Kilgore

Is that an "all over" green spray, letting the pre-shading do all the work, Simon?

An interesting effect... don't forget the weathering and general crud... we were forever scraping mud off the ladder rungs of my Dad's steam loco in foul weather and the funnel will accumulate soot as the steam blowers condense. You are also likely to get rust and grime staining running down from any protruding/projecting surfaces. The armoured skirts will mask any splashback from the rails...

Neil

Colonel Kilgore

Probably weathering after decals?

Simon

And then disaster strikes  :o

Colonel Kilgore

Oh no - what happened there?

Simon

SimonC

Cheapo aerosol varnish ... obviously cellulose based. Then imprudent 'is it dry moment'

Colonel Kilgore

Ouch...

I've had too many rattle can disasters - either priming or varnishing - so have gone right off the idea...

I hope you can fix it in short order.
