Having had such a good time at Piggie in the North day, I am of course now eying up new rules to buy. PITS was good fun indeed so I was wondering if anyone could give me an idea roughly how many bases of each type of  British and Sudanese unit I might need?

I've a box of the Sudan British from Baccus but pondering how many bases, not figures as I can adapt that number, I'll need before I go shopping at Joy of Six or Irregular's site.

X number of gunners
X number of cannon
X number of seemingly scary veteran camels who actually achieve little when they get there
Etc

Thank you... and darn you for getting me interested in yet another rule set lol

Turnip Tom

Yeah that's a good start for the British but hopefully a but more info about rough number of bases.
I want to get the figures ready before I buy the rules so I can hit the patrol running.

I suppose it's the locals I'm particularly interested in.

I'd agree with Julian. There are a number of "locals" options, and then some variety possible within each.

The general guidance on the PP website is "roughly 100 figures per side" as a rough idea, but then you'd probably want to look at the detail for each option.

PP used to sell army packs (I can't seem to find the correct terminology for a Google search) - if you can hunt down the old lists online that would provide a good start.

But if you're going to buy the rules anyway, I'd start there.

Completely agree about much of the fun of RFCM rules is working out the forces!

If it helps the lists we used last Saturday we're:-

British
3 x Average Platoons
Each of an Officer Base, Sergeant Base & 6 x Infantry Bases
4 x Scout Bases

Dervish
Veteran Camel Unit * - Leader Base & 6 x Soear
Veteran Beja Unit - Leader Base & 7 Spear Bases
Average Rifles Unit - Leader Base & 7 Rifle Bases
Poor Villager Unit - Leader Base & 3 Rifle bases & 4 Spear Bases
Poor Artillery Unit - Leader Base & 1 Krupp Gun

* should be Average or Poor but I made it Veteran for the purposes of the day.

I've found these 2 lists to be good go to lists for PITS.
However, I totally agree that working out your own forces is a big part of the fun of hobby.
I've been busy doing just that with the New Mexico Revolution rules.

Turnip Tom

Brilliant thank you John.

For me force building is a faff so having this as a reference/building point is helpful for shopping.

Good game by the way. Much fun indeed!
