Good report. Must try more non-historical match ups solo. I am off using up my holiday time before I retire so will try to do a game next week.

Very nice, Martin - good to see things in pictures.

A couple of thoughts:

1. it might be worth publishing a list of dual-purpose armies that could work across rulesets, highlighting which extra troops one would need to play the other ruleset (I'm thinking in particular here of the Viking, Saxon, Irish etc. armies for both Longships and CK) to encourage people to invest in such twofers

2. after 24 years of testing, you should surely have got things right by now?  ;D

Historically the Vikings could have fought against many forces as they travelled a lot further than people thought. Evidence has been found in the States, North Africa, Persia and probably beyond that. Its just a case of "when" rather than "where".

I feel that almost any pre-gunpowder army can fight any other. Its just a case of having the right points balance for each troops type. Yes you could have your 15th century knights charging Anglo-Saxons but when you looked at the points could you win with only 2 units!

Sometimes its just plain fun to have forces from different regions of the world as well as different times. What would have happened if the Vikings had sailed down the coast of American and met the Aztecs?  Actually that sounds like it could be a fun game in its own right.  Maybe that why I made my Barbarian army is generic rather than a specific nationality or grouping. It can be used as almost anything.
