Here is my step by step approach to painting a SB army in a short time. Not to win any painting prizes, but will get it ready for the table pronto!

Step 1 - Assembly


From packet to base. I wouldn't bother cleaning any figures up. This of course depends on the figure/mould age. The Turks here are new of the press so are neat and tidy. Most PP casting are good enough to do this with.

Step 2  Hot Glue


Hot glue gun the figures on the MDF bases

Step 3 White glue


Diluted white glue the sand on

Step 4 Craters


Optional step. If I put 3 figures on a base then I milliput a crater just to fill the base up a little bit. Bob it on and rough the edges up. Then with the 'wrong' end of paintbrush push in the crater.

Step 5 Undercoat


Spray the whole army with a 'coloured' primer. This time I've used dunklegelb (flames of war range)

Step 6 Drybrush


3 Layers of dry brush, doing the whole army at once.
Layer 1 - Vallejo Iraqi sand (heavy brush)
Layer 2 - Vallejo Iraqi sand + 40% white
Layer 3 - White  - just a soupçon

Step 7 Washes



then its a case of washing areas of the figures with a washy colour to give a variety. Any acrylic will do. I tend to use the GW Lahmian medium as the thinner, as this seems to give the best results.



Step 8 Finishing touches
Paint the whole base with Army Painter 'Soft tone'. This is the big can, not the bottle

Spray with really Matt varnish

I put a lot of tufts on , and then .. finish off with some weathering pigments on the base.

I normally use MiG Europe dust, but of late I've taken to Secret weapons 'Terracotta', perhaps not as 'real', but gives a bit of pop for the table

My guess, looking at the rounded corners, is that it is a FOW base.

Each stage was 1 'session' of about 1-2 hours. Stage 7 I did in batches of 10 bases , in 30 minutes stints ... so I'd reckon 21 hours in actual effort
