I bought 8 of these as I wanted some 88s for a 1945 themed game and at the time could only get the DAK variant in plastic so thought about just doing head swaps with PP heads.  I put the first two together and then forgot about them.  With the renewed impetus on painting I dug them out to find out that I had actually used a figure in shorts so I will do a pair of the guns as DAK before going back to the late war theme.

The 88 is an icon of WW2 gaming.
I think in late war i would prefer to crew a lower profile gun (back at HQ).

This model does bring out the size - particularly of the big shield on the front. I think I'm with Martin on this one.

Thanks for explaining the oil spots - I'd initially thought that someone was having a laugh with an ambush camouflage scheme  ;) They work really well on the finished model.

Another impressive paint job ! Thanks for posting, cheers Alex

Great painting Traffic.  There is really something about the desert war that really inspires me.

A bit of subtle chipping

For North Africa you could have them fighting still on the wheeled trailers instead of deployed....
Probably to aid rapid redeployment, but the recoil must have been a b***er!

They do look very nice, I love the crew figures, you could mix in some PP standing 8th Army crew with head changes, so you would have bare chested fellas in the mix ?
Looking at YouTube the recoil is "soaked up" rather well on the Gun mount with or without the wheels.
Unfortunately FoW don't really give you an option, I think Skytrek (warlord) are the only company that gives you the wheels ?
Also to do the slightly lower normal "88" is a major modelling task, but would be worth doing at somepoint, there are several how to convert the "Airfix 88" to the later mount and standard.

A lovely model, well carried out.
The only downside is that the 88 gives a +4 to the opponent in the piggy chase. A major consideration? :-\
