I think there must be a mole in PP HQ - Osprey seems to have got in on the act of new Ancient period wargames rules:

Interesting Simon.
Thanks for spotting it.
I don't know how popular new ancient battle sets of rules are.
The wise money is making 28mm  "50 a side" type games.

Always room for new ideas though.
Any ideas what the main ideas are in these new rules. Hopefully not a  gridded  one.

Can't find much info about them yet online. The author wrote the other Osprey ancient set a few years ago for Greek Hoplites - Men of Bronze?

I believe it's a follow on the the greek version the author did for them. Here is a quick review of those I found: http://irregularwars.blogspot.com/2019/04/review-of-ospreys-men-of-bronze.html

I have not tried them yet - we normally play ADLG but likely at some point may have a go.

Thanks Mark and Nick

At a cursory glance it seems a "50 a side" game.
That may not be a bad thing for many potential customers though.

Being Osprey will ensure sales of 1000+ ?
Job done.

I always convert  their  games to 15mm  50 a side

Some Osprey games have been good - Dux Bel, Frostgrave, Bolt Action, the Rampant series, gaslands etc and others not so much. I might even but the Ronin books in this level.

But some tend to feel hurried and needing more play testing or more depth of play.

Fior the money though they tend to be a reasonable bet for simple but playable games.

The Men Who Would be Kings, Fighting Sail, and Black Ops have been some of my favourites.  Apparently it takes 2 years from proposal to a book being published in the Osprey series.
