Looking at the US Mounted, working on having a force of two units plus the extra ten bases (circa 26 bases) how many dismounts would you normally go for? Would it be an equivalent to the number of bases used, or a reduced number?

I know it would seem a straight forward sum, but not having play tested I don't want to have too many dismounts that are not needed.

You might consider dual purposing your figures.

My mounted bases are turned backward when dismounted.
Stewart has the men on foot but with an accompanying single mounted  figure per square to show they are mounted.
Big Mike has single horse holder figure with empty horse as a marker.

If you are going full bore then you will need the same amount of foot as mounted with two less foot.
You might also reduce mounted to 2 per base instead of the three per base norm.

The US cavalry can have standards which look nice.
You might also do the men as black. Not officers though.
They are all wearing an olive  jumper with little pockets for tobacco or biscuits.
Goggles were not issued.
Neckerchiefs are rare.

We must be nearing the end of the initial set of releases if you're now doing the "fun stuff" (film crew), Martin!

This has been a most unexpected additional period - and certainly one about which I previously knew nothing (now I just know next to nothing  ) - added to the PP stable.

Fielding some Buffalo Soldiers for the occasional border clash will definitely be on my to do list. An excuse to field another contingent of beautifully sculpted figures is not a hard sell. Having represented solderadas among my Mex Rev forces it seems incumbent on me to represent the African-American 9th and 10th cavalry stationed on the US border.   
A film crew has long been on my wish list since I returned to 15mm to wargame Back of Beyond en-masse in the true 'epic' scale. I envied the 28mm'ers The North Star Castings film crew and learning about Mutual Films and their relationship with Pancho Villa in Mex Rev just made matters worse. Thank you Martin for making my year!
Although I am a heretic and use a different ruleset, I use a dismounted base composed from a horse holder and two horses as well as separate stands to represent the troopers. My cavalry are all on 2 figure bases while infantry are based in threes.
I have to say I'm with Simon. Mex Rev has been an unexpected and pleasant distraction for me and is now one of my most comprehensively covered wargaming periods on my roster.

With these US figures we should now be able to do games to show how the US won all the wars of the era.  The Wind and the Lion etc. 55 Days at Peking, US in  Nicaragua, and several.

But surely it wasn't the doughboys but the Marines that won all the foreign interventions?

I'm loving the film crew Mr De Mille.  My second unit will be sent to Central Asia to try and film the 1905 Paris-Peking Rally and try and capture footage of elusive Mongolian death worms...

The mounted dynamiteros are presumably Banderas inspired?, Martin? lovely additions
