Played a game of CK at the local BOSS hobby shop.

Tribal Germans versus Carthaginians.
A draw.
A fairly open battlefield.
The Germans moved up on their left and right flanks.
Very successful assaults.
The German right flank got punched back by the Carthaginians.

The Germans had the larger  figure count.
12 warband units of 16 each =192
2 cavalry units of 12 each=24
6 skirmish units of 8 each= 48
Total with generals =270 figures

The game used a 6 x5 grid. Each zone 10" wide by 6" deep. Giving 30 zones in total.

We used 12x6 templates with a few overlaps.
3 generals died (out of 4)

Stewart suggested that an un marked 5x3 cloth could be used with place holder blanks. Similar to BB.
This would mean the scenery pieces would be supplemented by some non-pieces in order to show the grid of zones.

Notes
The 30" depth gave lots of  useful table edge space.
The amount of figures is too high (I think ?) for player access.
Needs a sweep aside rule for opponent skirmishers (should be easy).
Introduced  5 as a common value in many mechanisms.

Sounds like a good game.

With that many figures on the table it must have been quite spectacular.

But - that's a lot of figures (roughly twice the RFCM norm for a "big battle" set?) for folks to buy and paint up...

Agreed Simon

It did look great.
Maybe CK can be at three levels.
Small
Medium
Large (being the game as played at the moment)

Maybe to pander to ego
Muscular
Heroic
Epic

?

Oh well, if you put it that way, I'd better get my brushes out immediately, then!  ;D

Another set of levels could be something:

a) Scuffle or Brawl (avoids "skirmish")
b) Jolly Good Set-To
c) Legendary Battle

Moggy

Or the British amongst up:

Peeved
Slightly Miffed
Tutting loudly
Wringing of hands

Martin,
Tuesday game
We could try 3 bases per unit with 1/2 bases?
I have some spare figures so I'll make some 1/2 bases up this weekend (unpainted)
