There's an excellent podcast called The Yarkshire Gamer and he asks his guests where do they sit on the Venn Diagram of Wargaming.
The circles are:
Gamer
Painter
Historian

So what would yours look like?
I think mine would tend to be closer to the Gamer/Historian edge than painting, but certainly with the cross section of all 3 circles.

Moggy

Good concept. For mwe I wouold think it ios probably somewhere around:

History   5%
Painting/modelling   50%  Even though I am not what I would consider a good painter
Gaming   45%

Derek

Spartacus

I would probably say:-

Painting--75%
History---15%
Gaming--10%

Only because I am "Billy NO Mates"

Steve E

I'd say mine would be

50% Gaming
40% Painting
10% History

Just to clarify so that all are involved.

Venn diagrams consist of a set of circles.
Each circle represents "something".

The circles might not even touch. e.g Height of trees and the colour of dice
The circles might overlap a bit .  e.g. Weapons used by the US army and French armies in WW1 (helmets, LMG, tanks)
One circle can be inside another  e.g British infantry  and British infantry who are NCOs.(this is what a faction really is )

The one we are using here is the common three circle one.

The circles form a "triangle" .  This means that all three overlap each other a tiny bit (centre). They also overlap each other a bit and each has space not overlapping at all.

You have all been very good, so off to  play time 2 minutes early.  No pushing, Simon.

Break time is over, so back to the task at hand.

I think I sit fairly firmly in the centre of the Venn diagram, with an equal level of interest in history, painting/modelling and gaming.

Simon (not wishing to be pushy  ;) )

Leman (Andy)

Middle of the Venn diagram for me; can't really see how an historical wargamer can be anywhere else, but proportions will vary enormously. I tend to be:
60% history
25% painting and modelling
15% gaming

I'm sure those proportions, especially painting and gaming, will change as more figures get painted and my collecting slows down (now I've blown a fat wad on a car). Interestingly I was chatting to my regular opponent back in the UK and he said to me that, as I am aware, for him playing and rules are the most important aspect of his hobby whereas mine is the accurate appearance of the figures and the look of the table. Everybody's approach to this hobby seems different.

Big Mike

Having embraced some of the newer painting techniques with my limited skills, I have reduced the tedious side of painting and so have more time to respect and play.
20% Painting
40% History
40% Gaming
(Ideally!!)
Mike

sukhe_bator (Neil)

Gamer 5%
Painter 35%
Historian 60%
I'm more or less of the same opinion as Leman. For me it is all about the world building and creating a reasonably accurate representation of the period on the table, otherwise you might just as well play chess.

Norm

Where do you sit ..... or where do you want to sit?

If the latter;
Gaming 70%
History 30%
Painting zero!

If the former;
Gaming 30%
History 30%
Painting 40%

Leman (Andy)

Neither Norm. Without a fat chunk of history it may as well be ludo for me.

My intention is for an equal balance of both, as each is an important part of the hobby for me.

However, I play less than I'd like. Now my club is open again, that side is picking up though. I'm painting as much as time allows and I'm constantly reading so both of those aspects are well covered.

Mine would be:
50% painting
30% gaming
20% History

There abouts....

Maybe we could put all these numbers into a matching program.
Then match the history, game , paint numbers and see how that goes?

"Hey , I see you are a 20% paint chap. I too am in that numerical area. Want a game?

For me, it would make things worse as opponents are hard to come by; in fact, for a lot of time I have had to play with people I dislike just to get a game.
