Just an umpteenth galleon

Last weekend I managed to finish up a large galleon for my 1:450 to 1:600 scales fleet - this time it was the turn for the model of a Spanish Armada large galleon produced by Skytrex in 1:600 scale. Model itself is quite heavy, because of being entirely made of metal.



Besides of heavy, it is also quite large - not less long than my own Minairons galleon, or Peter Pig's Indiaman. I've customized it only a bit, by replacing its original rigging by a Minairons set of sails; as these latter are taller than the original ones, I believed these would make the ship's overall look more impressive. Some Peter Pig crewmen and a lifeboat were also added as small improvements.



For painting it I chose a quite discreet colour schema, dominated by weathered timber shades with just a few colour touch-ups. I wanted it to be a hardened, heavy duty man-of-war!



As @Acronim taught me not too long ago, I am still adding flagpoles to my ships, but don't usually fix any permanent flag to them now - a practice that allows me to give them any nationality depending on scenario requirements, just by swapping flags. Here above you can see the galleon performing as an Ottoman heavy warship, for example

A CARRACK!

Do you have a carrack in a museum!? Did you manage to rescue it from the sea bottom? Oh Lord, that visit in England is already delaying too much!!

It may be fairer to say that it's lots of bits of preserved wood, but indeed recovered from the sea bed some years ago in quite a spectacular operation.

The Airfix model of the Mary Rose is Hugh even in 1/450 scale.
Lovely model Luis, a lesson on how to do an "old" lady of the sea rather than a fine newer one.

Heavier, actually. It is the same length than Martin's large merchantman - but while this latter's hull is resin, that one from Skytrex is metal cast.
