Hello everybody, it's Daniele from Italy and I've just started to paint some pirates packs to use with land raids ruleset.
Having read the rules I have the following questions about miniatures in the range and how to base them:
- Which are the miniatures to use for scurvy defenders in PP's range? The same as for the pirates and if so, can anyone give me some tips on how to distinguish them on the table?
- How do you suggest to base plunder carrying pirates? Only one on a coin or two on a normal 30x30 base?
- How to base plunder markers? I thought a single miniature on a coin should be ok, but in the rules there's a photo showing two miniatures on a 30x30 base. Is there a particular reason I didn't understand?
I think that's enough for now and I really thank anyone who can give me some help to build my troops.
Cheers
Daniele

Daniele,

Welcome to the Forum!

I'm sure others will provide their own thoughts shortly, but here are mine:

- I have bought a mix of townspeople (packs 13, 19, 27, 29, 33) for my defenders, into which I'll mix the odd Pirate figure (from packs 2 &3) - these bases should be sufficiently different to distinguish Pirates from victims; duller colours for townsfolk might also be appropriate?
- basing really doesn't matter, as the game is gridded - really, whatever works for you
- as above - a single miniature on a coin looks good (it's nice to make it clear what is a fighting base vs. plunder)

It's a great little game, and I think you should feel free to use your artistic licence in terms of models, painting and basing.

Benvenuto nel forum, Daniele!

As Simon says, because the game is gridded, base sizes do not matter, so long as you are happy and can tell what each base represents. So using some figures on round bases and some on squares may help. Or the colour of the basing material may assist. Or, for the scurvy, maybe use fewer figures on the base - maybe 2 figures as opposed to 3. Or paint them in drab colours, but your pirates in brighter colours.

Whichever way you go, enjoy the game! It really is a fun game to play and when used alongside the ships game can make a great little campaign. Please feel free to ask any follow up questions or for further advice.

Arrivederci!

Hi Daniele,
another suggestion to distinguish townsfolk from pirates would be to paint a little flash of colour on the back edge of the bases. So you could have red for pirates and blue for townsfolk. Or you could mark the pirates and not mark the townsfolk. I know some people don't like to mark their bases but it can be done quite discreetly.
Best of luck
John
