Must admit, all this HI talk, I think I will have to revisit what I have get on with some more models.
So a third Gaming day to include HI needs to be organised.
I think one thing we can do is have multiple games on the day, rather than the usual 2 ? 3-4 games over a day ? As I think most people would agree that the games are generally shorter than a typical CWB or PBI game say ?

That sounds good, Miles.

I have quite a few models assembled and primed - the prospect of a games day might provide the impetus to finally paint them.

Found this, this might help explain and show what an Ironclad would look like.

That's helpful, Miles. I've made a few half-hearted attempts to research colours online, with little success.

Another thing I need to get around to...

I collect images over the years, as I was looking up some of the old events and game pictures I found my folder with ACW ships. The above one the best to show, how colours and even boats were put the ships.

I seem to have resolved the McAfee problem by having an educated guess at a bit of Dutch instruction and getting it right. Great photo of those ships.

Commander Klank

great model... the Onandaga was a beast of a monitor and saw combat along the James River.

thanks!
I would like to add to the Hi range if I get time.

I would add that to my HI collection. would like to try some of the eastern theatre riverine warfare.

I freely admit I know nothing about Ironclads, but wouldn't the boats and railings get damaged as soon as she opens fire?

Smiley Miley 66

They did "stow away " a lot of the bits before they sailed. The make biv wack type canopies for the night time so the crew can sleep up on deck, that's while they are tide up next to the shore.

You are right Howard.
Boats would be towed  and all the awning framework would not be seen whenever action was proposed.
Many of the funnels were telescopic too.
For playing HI none of the frames would be present and no awnings raised (even on the turret tops) . Obviously the photos with awnings are not when battle is happening or promised

Oh they are to hold up Awnings for the crew to sleep under... like I said I know nothing about Iron Clads... :-[  ;D

I do know other stuff honest...

Not so much for sleeping but in keeping the southern heat off the men and metal.  Ouch that's hot.

On some of the ships they would have normal wheeled artillery pieces as defence. When moored up in the evenings.
