Hi Simon

The Italian and Turks were very good. Only a very small amount of minor flash and 1 ridge to lose on the heads of one specific figure (many times over) to get rid of but good poses and detail. Think its a bit of the luck of the draw to be honest.

More favoured periods/armies may well have the mould used a lot more often so get a good deal more wear and tear on them I should think which could explain this. I don't know about the costs of replacing a range of moulds (Martin, can you give an idea on this?) but it is yet another expense for any business. Maybe that another good reason to go for the more esoteric Armies :)

I have had bad experiences with poor moulding/flash before as well but couldn't specify any individual manufacturer for this. About the worst I have had was a lack of any detail to pick up on when painting. In many ways I find this harder to deal with.

Cheers

Good points, Derek.

It's also one way I justify to myself buying Martin's latest products. There's usually very little flash in any case, but I figure why take the risk, and so it's best to get them while they're hot and the moulds still super-fresh  :)

Unfortunately I seem to be 3 or 4 production ranges behind the latest. Always hard playing catch-up.

Just kidding. I only do what I like and although I am sure MEX-REV is a fun period it just doesn't do anything for me. Now if it was Mex/US war at the Alamo or something that may be different.

Derek, happy to take on your Italians once we are able to meet up. I have 1915 Austrians and late war British.

Always good to hear John. It may even get me incentivised enough to get those Dammed A rabs.

First 4 regiments of A-rabs done (the tribals). Now working of 4 regiments of mixed A-rabs to go under the Pan-Arabian flag.

Coming along nicely... is the fruit in the background artillery support?
I hope you will be fielding mounted troops too - both camelry and horses?

Have you considered making 'Harrat' as an Arab Revolt scenic speciality? - the very stony lava fields in C Arabia? I came across an old 1940s Circus poster reprinted on a recycled WW2 map of Hijaz which showed they were a major obstacle to camels and wheeled/tracked vehicles alike.

Hi Neil

Yes there will be cavalry and possibly camelry later. I may even take the bedouine side of the army (8 regiments) to be fully mounted to provide a lot of options.

Just finished 1st mixed colour regiment with pan arab flag. Will do photo's once I have the other 3 done.

Hi

First 2 units of the Sharifian Army now almost finished.

4 more to go, then attention moved to MG and Art. Cavalry should have arrived by then.

Then can revise my Army list to take into account I have now played a game.  :o

So what have you done to create the Arab figures Derek.

Moggy

Couldn't find the right figures anywhere. Best I could come up with was these which are QRF Turkish figures. The headress is right and funnily enough a large portion of the Sharifian Army was formed from Turkish deserters anyway so I suppose they could well be right. Hard to make out from some grainy black and white piccies. Anyway, given the 3 foot rules they look the part. I also have 2 Bn's of British colonial infantry in pithe helmets with neck curtains. Filled down the top of the helmets. Not sure how they are going to come out but will post a piccy when they are done.

Always remember that PP range does carry an awful lot of very useful "Heads" including a very nice one PLO Head scarf. Also a bit of Greenstuff used correctly can be made to look the same ?
I have started an Arab PLO/Lebanese type force myself for AK47, but for now only half way through ?

Dont have the confidence. hand stability, patience to get into head swaps. I may try making it up,. Have found bluetack works well for very minor fills/mods.

If you look at my article in the first Mill of this year you don't need to all the things you think ? The right tools and mind set. With the scarf type head and spare green stuff you have "wiggle" room if you mess up ?
Doing These would be a great range to try some out.

Not entirely sure. Done a test paint of 1 base of the figures with the filed down pith-helmets. What do you guys think? Please be honest.

Oh, in case anyone is interested in the red/white fuzzy stuff in the background that is my wife's latest crochet creature an octopus. Here is an example of her dragons.
