Hello
My gaming buddy and I is having our first game of Battles in the age of war this friday (with our newly painted PP samurai armies😊):

I have a question regarding "fights". Do fights carry over to the next turn?
As in: The attacker pays the 2AP for starting a fight - the result ends in a "fight on" - do the two units: a) fight another round of combat in the same "fight turn" until one unit routs or withdraws or b) is the next round of combat in the defenders "fight turn"? (I am a little uncertain here, because the rules talks of both rounds and turns on page 93 "After the winner and loser are identified"

If it is b (the next round of combat in the defenders "fight turn") must the defender the pay 2AP to fight or is the fight automatic?
Cheers and thanks in advance

Hello Soren

Nice question.
Units will stay in a fight unless they either rout or choose to withdraw.

Assuming there are two opposing players "A" and "B".

e.g 1
If A starts a fight in his turn the fight is carried out in A's turn.
After the fight a loser in the fight carries out morale.
If the morale creates a result of 0,1 or 2 fails the fight carries on .
The next round of the fight is carried out in B's turn.
Once again morale is carried out by any loser. If only 0.1 or 2 fails occur the fight will carry on in A's next turn.

Overall
1 fight carried out per turn.
Fight carried out in player A and player B turn.
Morale carried out after each turn of the fight (Unless rout (3,4,5 fails) or player chooses to withdraw) the fight will happen again next turn.

In theory a fight could carry on all game.
In practice a player losing a fight will often take a risk and withdraw, rather than staying and being slaughtered for sure.
Units that get hit hard in the first turn of a fight usually rout too.

Hope that helps a bit.
I can provide an example of a fight if that helps??

Thank you, Martin! No need to provide an example, you are perfectly clear. :)
