This set should be up for a re-do at the end of 2016.

A revision ? Cool , can you bung in something about Commisars and Cadres please ?

Leslie BT

Is that all that needs updateing?

SCW rule and figure update! Great!

Could I just plead for some new figures needed in my opinion. Two of them could be used for scenario situations

1. Legión in the usual cool PP poses.
2. Civilians (men, women and children) in non-action poses
3. International journalists

The army Lists are a bit skewed towards the "Militia Period" of the war, perhaps the Regular army list could be modified to show a difference between units "in favour" with their government (well supported) and some former militia units (Falange and P.O.U.M. for example) that were treated as a bit suspect which tended to happen after 1937 ?

Painter Dave is doing some figures ready for playtesting at the  end of 2016. Sounds like we have a good group here whom might be up fir play testing? i am thinking of a simplified PBI type game but still on a   4x4.
I will prime the pump more later this summer. Hope you have all noticed the new figures creeping in to the range (recent new international brigade).  The minairons PZ i are good too.

Chaps,

For those of you planning on getting ahead of the game and painting up some SCW forces, the book "Painting War 5: Spanish Civil War":

is excellent. It includes step-by-step examples of all the main types of forces required, with lots of useful general painting tips.

Even if you do not subscribe to the painting style (aimed primarily at 28mm figures), it offers Vallejo codes for all paints/shading and includes lots of historical context as well as rank insignia etc. I had read a review in one of the wargames "glossies" that concluded that this book alone would be enough to paint up an entire SCW force. While I haven't yet fully tested this assertion, so far it sounds about right.

I got mine from North Star, as it was the cheapest at the time [it's currently £16 + P&P] and came with a free figure:

Happy painting!

Excellent Colonel.

The free figure would look nice on a plinth as a statue in a town square 😁

Armoured Lorries please. The.

martin goddard

There is a booklet with scale plans of the armoured lories somewhere.  Anyone know more???

really useful book for SCW forces, the book "Painting War 5: Spanish Civil War": shame about the poor proof reading.

Stewart 46A

I have a Foreign legion force ready and some buildings, just finishing some walls. Ready for next year

Colonel Kilgore

@Les,

Yes, the poor English / proof-reading (there are even whole paragraphs repeated) is a tad annoying, especially in the initial text-heavy section.

However, I found that, as the book goes on and focuses on specific uniforms by unit, the somewhat idiosyncratic English bothered me less - it's a lot of book for your money and probably does provide a one-stop painting guide for the war. As well as some interesting commentary in passing.

It does require rather a lot of different Vallejo colours to follow all the suggestions rigorously for all the units covered. Having splashed out on all the ones I didn't have at a recent show, I'd advise caution to others!

Colonel Kilgore

@Stewart,

You sound well ahead of the game again!

Do you have any insight into the likely force compositions / sizes for this new version of the rules - broadly similar to the previous one, presumably?

And did you make or buy your buildings? I've been looking online for some time, and have only found the Hovels in 15mm. These seem fine for towns, but perhaps less so for isolated buildings / farms.

I'm guessing it shouldn't be too hard (if one has the time...) to scratch-build some from balsa or foamcard, with plasticard pantile roofs?

Martin did send some ideas out about 6 months ago so I built a force on that but will proberly need to expand it when we start play testing.
My building I bought from the 'last valley'  he was on facebook.
The walls are from Peter Pig.
