A recent question put to me was about the "army status" value in Square Bashing.

I thought I would put an explanation here in case other folk find the system a bit weird and difficult to fathom.
Firstly; yes it is a bit weird and difficult to fathom.  :-[
Apologies for that, but a status system does need (?) to take in many criteria in order to be  "representative".

I present here a description of how to work the army status out. :)

The formula for the army status is on page 63 of the rules book.

It works like this

1. Add up the total of ALL the assets an army has. Then divide /share by 4.
2.Find the attack scores awarded when a 10 (on 2 D6) is rolled on the days to war. Also find the attack score when 2 (on 2D6) is scored on the days to war attack score. Add these two results and divide by 2. This will give an  indication of the average attack scores for that army.
3.Add up how many MG/Artillery/tank/AC available (not used, but AVAILABLE). Deduct(take away) 10. This gives a  score. No negatives scores allowed.
4. Add up the number of professional units AVAILABLE (not used) to that army. Divide this by 2 to give a score.
5.Higher command value.
6. Artillery quality Good=6 av=2 poor =0

Add up the results for 1,2,3,4,5,6 and you will have the army status.

I agree it is quite complicated and involved, but it only needs doing once.

An alternative might be to award 10 extra victory points to whichever army you feel is "better" in the game you are playing?

Martin,
Thanks for sharing - this is good to know.
Even better that this has already been worked out for each army and published in the lists  :D

Thanks for posting that Martin.
That's a great insight to know how those numbers are worked out.
