Multi-player pitched battles

If I was to do a 4 player pitched battle, would you see the need to increase the table size (length) and/or number of troops on the table?

We often play two aside at our club, more friendly and you have someone to blame when your side loses.
We don't increase table or force size.

Agreed with Stewart, 2 players per side is the perfect set up. Very sociable, dice rolling can be shared, there's always someone offering to make a cup of tea, and the after game chat is always most convivial.
