Well, that was a jump!
Starting to play a  first few tentative games.
Martin has already got is D6 rolling.

I have put the "team" part and the "PBI" part as distinct halves of the book at present.

Does this mean that PBI will be re-made?
Will Team PBI be a supplement book on its own?
Will Team PBI be compatible with existing PBI?

No need to worry too much as it is over a year away. The project has just started. :)

Hi Martin, thank you.

There is a lot more material in this version.

The file sent has the footer on every page saying version 14 (dated 06/12/19) not 16.

Foe initial deployment is the same.

Did you send the correct file?

Martin B,

The at-times lagging dates and version numbers on such playtest documents are deliberate. Some big wargames hobby businesses, jealous of RFCM's march towards global dominance, are constantly trying to hack into PP HQ's servers and steal IP: these techniques have hitherto been found useful in keeping such plagiarism at bay.

I hope that helps.

I will have a look at that.

I did add a lot more detail to FOE deployment, but have not actually used it myself much yet.

In the few games i have played so far:-
The motivation works well. i.e. it is easier and quicker.
The piggy chase  or whatever start mechanism is used, needs more flavour (says Stewart).

Things that will probably not change .
1.Table size
2.Small arms shooting and pinning
3.Assaults
4. Movement and AP costs
5. Points cost for figures and tanks.
6. Morale  (just a bit)
7. Scenery set up
8. Reinforcements.
9. Asset mechanism
10. HE (probably)

Hi,
Thank you Simon and Martin, I'll spend some time on this at the weekend and send some feedback.

Is this a potential for a revised version of the main rules with  Team PBI as a second way of playing?.

First of all let me say that I really enjoy PBI as it is. I have said many times WW2 isn't a favourite period of mine but PBI has got me playing it and enjoying it....something no other WW2 set has ever done.

But, I do understand that some mechanisms first seen in BAIT would port over to PBI easily. So motivation and morale as two examples.

I can't imagine that the PBI architect book would need changing at all.

But Team PBI might be an opportunity to combine both games with the benefits of a fresh look at the original mechanics.

Just my 2p being thrown into the hat.

Stewart suggested that if we keep Team PBI loose enough it can be compatible with several rule sets. This means that team PBI could be a  mere 40 pages and become volume 3 of the PBI book group. Then a new PBI could slip in easily :)

Colonel Kilgore

Very cunning, Stewart and Martin.

But what are the odds we'll keep this a slim volume...?  ;)

I think that is a good idea. Keeping it as a supplement. Rather than a "new" game. Otherwise it might give people from the out side, the wrong idea. They might think it's the main WW2 game.
Yes I like the idea of exploring some ways to tighten up PBI.
Beachhead I ve suggested that we use the Vietnam bullet system for a countdown, so both players have a say in the countdown; and puts a minimum of 2 on the clock rather than the usual 1. As it's a show I ve put an 8 turn limit which would be under the control of the defender. He will reduce the score by one after his turn has finished. This also gives us another option, if the battle clock reaches 21 before the 8 "whole" turns the game would come to a natural end ?
As the Battle of the Bulge scenario was actually done late in the day, have a turn limit, simulates it getting dark.  As well as it's a show game.
No doubt feedback on this will be shared on here at a later date.

I agree with Stewart that it should be a supplement, perhaps as a pdf only, reading through it I can see it would be (is) compatible with Bayonet and Ideology SCW rules as some of the mechanisms come from there.

The sections on terrain selection and assets could be linked to the relevant sections in the parent rules with some notes on exclusions or additions as required.

There is no reason why this can't be a laboratory for PBI and ideas incorporated into the next version when it comes. How old is the current PBI?

Best regards,

Current PBI published in 2015.
If the  current project becomes a new PBI that would be 2021  = 6 year gap.
