Played the first run through of Towton on Thursday evening 17th October.
The scenario is fairly straight forward so no major problems expected.

One minor matter is that the increase to 4 units per zone means that the  magic "5" is more often achieved. Thus generals are a lot more prone to death.

I might change the scenario rule so that generals are hit on 6th hit. Otherwise players might avoid risking generals and thus change the nature of the game.

The battle was most enjoyable.
37 units on the table. This gives 37x4x3 figures= 444 figures  and more upon teh table.  It was very impressive. Sadly my Ipad had run out of charge :(

The battle swung this way and that.
Only lasted 8 turns.
Four generals died.
Woods on the flank caused a  lot of delay.
The hills played  a very small part.

I believe (?) the game was enjoyed by all 4 players for its challenges and surprises.
Marvellous.

Will get some photos next time.

Second point.
Sean how did your refight of Towton (6 years ago) go, in terms of tactics and outcome?

Sean Clark

We played it through twice. Most enjoyable game, with hours even. I think there were 24 units which with all of the usual markers meant I had 609 figures on the table.

Of course when I displayed it at Alumwell, I was rightly told that it would look better in 28mm. How silly of me not to know.

It was 10 years ago..2009, and the last game I played with my friend who passed away later that year.  :'(

Thanks Sean.
Of course 28mm is better ; for skirmishes. ::)

Who won the two battles?
When we played it the Lancastrian centre stayed fairly stationary. The Lancastrians attacked with their right flank but got a bit bogged down in the woods.

Probably spent too long hiding in the woods looking for the King!

Sean Clark

I think being told it would have been better in 28mm is one of the first things I've ever had said to me in a warning context.

Lancs won once and the Yorkists won once. It was a tough game for the Lancastrians as the Yorkists were firing arrows down wind in the snow!

I remember your game Sean, it looked very good.

I expect that rude fellow is dead now. No use to anyone else.

Leman (Andy)

The odd thing about the 28mm large battle is that it requires a much bigger table than a 15mm game, thus the observer has to stand further back from the main action in the centre of the table negating the so-called advantage of using 28mm figures.
