Made a vid of painting some Peter Pig late War Brit mortars as Canadians for D-Day.  After visiting the D Day beaches last month I was inspired to honour the Canadians.  First off some 3"Mortars as test figures.

Very nice, Paul - even if the opening second or so sounded something like a confession!

Many thanks for sharing your basing technique, and the colours you used.

Good luck with that first infantry platoon!

Thanks Simon.  Definitely a confession at the start.  Miniatures anonymous.

I've decided to up scale from platoon to a company.  Might be a little while before by next update on here. 😀

Visited the Canadian beaches and then on along the coast to Ouistreham where we found the 4th Commando museum, celebrating the French commando's.
The museum is just behind the Casino that the Germans demolished and turned the basement into a fortified bunker, now been rebuilt.

Started the day at Arromanches-les-Bains and had a look at the new commemorative garden by the 360 museum, and then down to the Musee du Debarquement to look at the granite floor in the museum entrance that we have been told was quarried in one of our fields.

Saw various British tanks along the coast that have been left as memorials.

Very busy in the Canadian museum as they had a large group of students visiting, so will return later in the year for a proper visit.

Colonel Kilgore

That sounds like a good day out, Les.

Was there anything still around worthy of photographs (e.g. to help recreate some of this on the tabletop)? I went to one of the naval gun sites a few years back and, even though the bunkers were in various states of demolishment (is that a word?) it was all still pretty impressive and evocative.

That's the only thing with these DDay projects, what starts out as a little project !!!
In time it sort of gets out of control?
I ve now got 60 engineering vehicles for DDay with a few more to do as yet.
I ve got to do the Engineers on foot as yet, so they will enhance the vehicles better and also do their own thing in a game.

I agree Miles.  Every time I visit a battlefield I get inspired to do another project.
