Revisiting Walter Schnaffs after the delivery of some new toys. The inaugural outing for the French was grim. I had hoped to take more pictures, but like a boxer on the ropes didn't get much chance to take a breath.

We played the card draw for forces and events. The French drew a lot of men, but actually too many which meant that there were no points left for Mitrailleuse or asset increment. Coupled with poor roll on the events 1 vs 5 in favour of the Prussians, it lined up for 'The Big Push.

French deployment was 'Positions Magnifiques' after getting the Hills of Spicheren event , but the Prussian depletions were relentless

But afterwards there were a lot of French soldiers waiting to arrive, and the line was 'thin'

After picking asset as the higher command, primarily to get some 'urgent arrivals' to re-occupy the hill, that failed :-(

Ray had the Prussion event "Wird die außerordentliche élan der Preußen über die grobe Unentschlossenheit durch die Franzosen herrschen" - At the start of the 1st French turn nominate 2 squares that cannot move this turn :-(

With a swift advance the Prussians swept up the hills and the game was spent with flanking Prussians attacking the beleaguered French positions.
The French made a fist of it, but the Breech loaders (of which there were 7!) were brought up and the shooting was getting brutal.

There were three gallant rear guard defences and a rather speculative counter assault to try and recapture the ruined Chateau - but amounted to nought. On the last turn the Prussians had captured 3 out of 4 objectives , with 2 breakthroughs .... The last French points were literally blown away as all the Prussian artillery fired on the last battalion of French line defending the crossroad.

Massive victory to the Prussians.

Were got the return fixture next week so I hope to take more pictures

Terrific looking game. The cards look really good.

Colonel Kilgore

Yup - lovely game and figures - a great advert for the rules and 15mm scale.

I like the cards. You need a more extensive collection. But deal six cards for your army. Rotate the deck 90˚ and d6 cards give you the pre battle events. The 2 'cover cards' cover up the sections you don't need. Jobs a good's
