Found my old copy the other day. Can't ever remember playing it! I think I bought it off eBay intending to use it as a campaign system for Bloody Barons.

I've watched a couple of YouTube videos and it seems quite a an elegant game and eminently suitable to use Bloody Barons to fight the battles.

I suppose the only issue is you might end up playing the boardgame for a couple of hours before a fight ensues and not have time to play it that night.

The idea and period are great. The gameplay goes on  and on and on  and on and ........ Life is too short.   Use Lord Scrope whenever possible.  Just my opinion

Sean Clark

Not recommended then!

Lord Scrope sounds like an upstanding fellow.

Only a personal opinion Sean. I have only played it three times but it felt like twenty. It does however have a lot of fans.  maybe there are some less "annoyed" reviews  out there. Please find and share Sean.

To put my comments into context, i dislike monopoly too for similar reasons.

People who like that sort of thing will find it the sort of thing they like. (AL)

A quite I hold dear.

I am not a board gamer really. As a friend once does it to me, they're called board (bored) games for a reason.

It's more the subject matter as opposed to the actual gameplay. I will search for other campaign systems to consider.

Debenhams all over the country has game of thrones Cluedo at half price   i.e. £15.

Which version of Kingmaker?

At STTaB we used it generate a campaign, I think even before Martin released his figures for the period!!

It's a game that give some idea of the war, characters and campaigns.

Kingmaker is one of the very few board games I enjoy. It has a real period feel and is a good basis for campaigning. The fact that it is a long game makes it useful as a campaign that can be suspended for a while whilst other games are played, and then go back to.

Sean Clark

It's still under consideration, especially with a new version of Bloody Barons in the pipeline.

Go on Sean you know you want to play. I expect that someone in the Burton club will have a copy and just be wanting to play it with you!!

Used to play it regularly. The English version moves quicker that the Avalon Hill version. The English version has simpler parliament rules. It can drag on if you have defensively minded players but the game encourages bold play. You really need 4 or 5 players I would say.
The American version solves the "on and on" scenario by awarding points for holding territory and towns so that you can put a time limit on the game in case there is still more than one king when you want to stop.
I think it is still one of the best board games around.

Yes Sean, agree with John, the UK edition is the better game.

When are you coming over for a game?
