Antony Beevor "Arnhem".  Great book. Highly interesting. For wargamers some great descriptions of scratch German units and analysis of British airborne division falling apart and still having to fight. Vehicle descriptions good and accurate. I think there are more mentions of 88's than is plausible. I assume that is because Brits would describe most guns as 88's. Rather than PAK 40, 150mm etc???

"Whoa Mohammed" seems a battle cry of the Brit paras?


Browning and Monty come out badly.
US para come out well.
Highest praise goes to British medium batteries in support. Seems justified.
A name drop here.  My friend (now gone). Peter Lewendon was at Arnhem as a glider pilot. Then went on to even more dangerous times teaching Geography to teenage boys. Phew!

In my previous life an old German patient of mine drove a kettengrad at Arnhem. Such connections make history real don't you think?
