This months WSS is focussing on the WOTR. This has become the best magazine at the moment (my opinion of course). It has reviews, articles and is not dedicated to any manufacturer /group.  Recommended.

Leslie BT

Yep at the moment is does seem to have some of the best articles from some good writers.

Sean Clark

Agreed. Having said that I have just bought the new WI for the first time in over a year.

WSS seems to have the breadth of interesting articles hay appeal to me. Having said this, I only buy the magazine's every know and then.

Sean i bet you never miss an edition of the church times?  Maybe a battle account of Joshua and his 300 v the midianites might be in order from you in the magazine?

Sean Clark

It's top of list of battles tonight....how did you know? But I'm not sure the wider public is quite ready for it 😁

Leslie BT

Wider public, sounds like were heading down the faction road again.

I know you like those bible battles Sean. Always makes a good sermon. Bit of smiting, then some begating.  There is always someone with J in their name partaking.

I imagine Sean reads it in bed to help him get off to the Land of Nod (sigh!). And yes, WSS is definitely the best commercial general wargames mag at the moment. However, for those interested in the ACW I can highly recommend the emagazine, ACW Gamer. Usually has rules reviews, scenarios, book reviews, and articles on other aspects of the Civil War. It has had one of the best discussions of Confederate uniforms, and their colours, that I have ever come across, and all for $12 a year.

Sean Clark

Ill check that out. Piggy (!) Backing on that subject....if you have access to podcasts, try Civil War Talk Radio. It's hosted by a Civil War Historian/educator and usually involved an interview with the author of a new book on the subject.

I get all of my Wargaming magazines by subscription. Wi and WSS both email you when your new issue is coming, but the email from Guy always seems to be "personnel".

Just received my first ever issue of WSS (and yes, the email saying it was on its way was a nice touch).

I liked this magazine, although I wished they credited the manufacturers in the various photos.

It was good to see the PP ad, but maybe a missed opportunity not to showcase the WOTR range in this issue devoted to that war (instead, they ran the destroyed vehicle ad currently in other magazines)?

Sean Clark

Nice mention of the WotR range though when discussing what figures are out there though. Quite like the period focus too.

Yes there was - I'd forgotten about that figure review (in which the pictures against a scale rule are most useful)! And likewise, it's nice to have a period focus. Probably better for advertisers too, if they can include a relevant ad in such themed issues?
