Shooting through intervening squares?

We had an incident in our last game where our opponents wanted to fire with Light Tanks through a square full of infantry at another infantry square directly behind. Is this possible for Light Tanks ? Is this possible generally? Thanks.

Hi JOHN, you can't fire through friendly infantry and if both squares are enemy then you have to engage the nearest target. Target priority is 1.facing squares, 2.proximity squares 3. A n other.
